135 students honoured with 'Fudar Pratishthan Puraskar'

Mangalore, February 26: As many as 135 students from Catholic community were honoured with 'Fudar Pratishthan Puraskar' at a grand felicitation programme organised by Fudar Pratishthan at Milagres Hall in the city on Sunday.

The felicitation was organized for the achievers in SSLC, PUC, graduation and post-graduation courses. They were awarded with cash prize, citation and mementos.

Inaugurating the event, Dr Henry D'Souza, Bishop of Bellary, called upon the young generation to strive to build a better society.

He said that the life of Jesus Christ itself was an inspiration for the youths to do good to the society.

Arun Furtado, district backward and minority department officer, exhorted the young generation not to ignore the opportunities that are open for them in government sector.

Though the private sector attracts the students, government jobs have more benefits in general, he opined.

He also applauded the efforts of Fudar Pratishthan in encouraging students from Catholic community.

Fr Walter D'Mello, Vice president of Fudar Pratisthan welcomed the gathering. John D'Silva, president of Fudar Pratisthan and Frank Fernandes, managing director of Mosaco shipping and Forwarding LLC were also present.

Kasaragod, Apr 7: The new COVID Hospital at the Kasaragod Medical College has started functioning, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday.

The new administrative block of Kasaragod Medical College was converted into a COVID-19 Hospital for providing better treatment facilities to the coronavirus patients, the Chief Minister said while addressing a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

Stating that the hospital was converted to a Corona Care Hospital in just four days, he said 200 beds and 10 ICU beds are now ready.

In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly sold her five-day-old baby boy to two siblings in Karnataka’s Davanagere for Rs 5,000 on Tuesday (May 26) in connivance with a hospital employee, according to police.

Acting on a complaint by Honnali child development project officer Mahantesh Poojar, police booked a case against six persons in connection with the incident and arrested four of them by Tuesday night.

Police said the woman allegedly sold the baby, born on May 20 at Honnali taluk hospital, to Annesh Naik, 36, and his sister Lavanya, 39, in the early hours of Tuesday in front of the Honnali KSRTC bus stand.

The six accused have been identified as Kumar, 44, a staff nurse at Honnali hospital; Mahesh, a group ‘D’ employee at the hospital who facilitated the deal; Basavaraj, 36, a lab technician at Hirekerur hospital; Annesh; Lavanya; and the mother of the infant.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had said that his son Nikhil's marriage ceremony will take place at bride Revati's residence in Bengaluru, however, the wedding preparations are also going on in his farmhouse at Ramnagar.

This comes amid the lockdown in the country due to COVID-19 outbreak. The farmhouse is located at Kethaganahally, near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Kumaraswamy has said the marriage will be simple and only his family members will attend and no one from outside would be invited.

Earlier Kumaraswamy has said that his son's marriage will take place on April 17 at bride house.
