Udupi, February 28: Lambasting Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said that both the national parties had been using the minorities as vote bank at the cost of division on the communal lines.

He was speaking at the Udupi-Chikmagalur JD(S) workers' convention organised here as part of poll preparation. Workers from DK, Shimoga, Chikmagalore and Udupi participated in the convention.

Criticising the modus operandi of Sangh Parivar, the JD(S) state president questioned why leaders of Sangh Parivar, who always pretend to be the saviours of Indian culture, backed the BJP ministers involved in Assembly porngate?

Why do you thrash innocent girls if you can't touch porn ministers: HDK questions Sangh Parivar

The porn tainted ministers were not booted out by Sangh Parivar, whose moral police had assaulted innocent girls at pubs in Mangalore, he said, posing a question: “Why do you thrash innocent girls if you can't touch porn ministers?”

Referring to a controversial media statement by Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda, the JD (S) leader asked when Mr Gowda himself could not believe that he was the CM, how could the six crore people of the state expect development from him?

“Will the officials listen to his words in such a situation?” he questioned.

Targeting transport minister R Ashoka for his statement that the budget presented by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had been fully implemented, he said: “Mr Ashoka is lying because he is happy with the commission earned in the purchase of new bus chassis to BMTC.”

He said, if Yeddyurappa wanted, he could have released at least Rs 200-300 crore to Areca farmers from the Rs 1000 crore revolving fund, earmarked in the agricultural budget. Unfortunately not even one rupee had been released from the fund. Likewise, only Rs 16 crore had been utilised for the welfare of the fishermen community, though the fund earmarked was Rs 160 crore, he lamented.

JS(S) candidate SL Bhojegowda, and other JD (S) leaders PGR Sindhia, Zameer Ahmed, Abdul Azeem, Basanagowda Yathnal, Madhu Bangarappa, Mahendra Kumar were present among others.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is facing major dissent within the party and the BJP MLAs held a meeting on Tuesday night at former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar's residence to discuss the functioning of Yediyurappa-led government, said BJP sources.

According to BJP sources, some of the unhappy BJP leaders and MLAs met last night at Shetter's place and expressed that they are not satisfied with Yediyurappa's leadership.

Last night's meeting shows that party leaders are looking to bring down Yediyurappa from the Chief Minister's post by sending a clear message to the high command that Yediyurappa is incapable of continuing as the CM, said BJP sources.

Other sources in BJP have also asserted that BJP leadership in Karnataka is looking for a "leader" who can lead the party in upcoming elections which is going to be held after three years. At this point of time, it's crucial for BJP to promote second-line leadership.

Meanwhile, a letter is being circulated in the BJP party forum and over social media against Chief Minister Yediyurappa's leadership.

It looks like the same team which is unhappy with Yediyurappa's leadership is trying to convey the same message to their high command. The letter which is being circulated says to be written by one of these leaders' groups against Yediyurappa and his son Vijayendra.

On this, Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy told media, "Maybe the letter is written by the same MLAs because after the expansion of Karnataka cabinet so many leaders from BJP were kept out."

"There is a lot of discontent among BJP MLAs that the ones who have toiled for the party day and night have been neglected from the cabinet expansion. This will definitely result in destabilisation in the government," said Eshwar Khandre, KPCC Working President.

Now party high command needs to look into Karnataka leadership to manage the government in the state.

"Now BJP leadership in Karnataka and Delhi need to look into the matter and need to solve the issue after cabinet expansion," said a BJP leader.

Meanwhile, financial aid to the tune of Rs 13.24 crore has been distributed through Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to nearly 1,600 beneficiaries. I will continue to serve the poor on my own as an individual. For this, I have set up an office in the premises of my house,” Ivan said, adding that he has distributed grocery kits and other essential items to over 18,000 families during the lockdown period.
