Incident 2012: NIIT-K students dabble with facial, have a gala time

Mangalore, March 2: The Himalaya Drug company, which is known for producing cosmetics using natural ingredients, has tried to enter into the Limca Book of World Records by making 418 students apply its latest facial product on each other's faces simultaneously.

The record-breaking venture was carried out on the Suratkal beach here on Thursday and the students who came forward to be part of this endeavour were engineering students from NIIT-K.

The programme titled “Graduate to a pure skin” was a treat for the eyes of the public. The students were split into batches of 50 members each and carried out the mission in under three hours. On an average the time taken for applying facial products was four minutes per person.

Rs. 10,000 was given to the student who applied faepack in quick time. Ankit Mahajan, brand manager of consumer products of Himalaya Herbals, gave an introduction about the products.

The programme was organized as part of the annual day celebrations of the NIIT-K. Beach volleyball, kite-flying and other entertainment programmes lent coulor the celebrations.

Mangaluru, Mar 23: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday announced to enhance surveillance along the coastline of Karnataka to strengthen security.

It has tasked its hovercraft in New Mangalore, and high-speed patrol vessels and interceptor boats along the coastline for ensuring foolproof security of the uninhabited islands, Deputy Inspector General S B Venkatesh, Commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, said in a release today.

The amphibious hovercraft have been deployed for near to coast patrol, to facilitate smooth execution of search and rescue operations and security cover over land and riverine route. Please log in to get detailed story.

Bengaluru, Jun 2:  With easing of COVID-19 lockdown curbs, the Karnataka excise department has accorded permission for fresh brewing or production of beer and to sell it in microbreweries as takeaways.

"Permission is hereby accorded to microbreweries for fresh brewing/production and sale of beer as takeaway in glass, ceramic or stainless steel container (up to 2 litre) till 30-06-2020, or until further orders, whichever is earlier," the Excise Commissioner in a letter dated June 1 to Deputy Excise Commissioners of all districts said.

The opening and closing hours of the microbreweries shall be from 9 am to 9 pm, it said, adding that all other conditions as laid down will remain unaltered.

Earlier, in a letter dated May 12, the Excise Commissioner had "conditionally" granted permission for microbreweries to sell their beer stock as takeaway on experimental basis for the period from May 14 to June 30 or until exhaustion of existing beer stock, whichever is earlier.

It had called for measures like social distancing, cleanliness, usage of masks and sanitizers, among others, and had said, microbreweries situated in containment zones are not allowed to function.

Shivamogga, Feb 6: A youth, who allegedly uploaded pornography and inappropriate videos of children on social media, was arrested by the district CEN police after a tip-off from the CyberTipline.

The accused is a resident of Sorab taluk and is said to be below 18 years. He uploaded the objectionable content during April and May last year. He was traced based on the IP address of his computer and the mobile call records shared by the investigating agencies.

He was arrested in January under the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000 and sent to judicial custody, said police sources.
