Bhatkal's Jamia Millia to mark golden jubilee with series of events

Mangalore, March 2: Jamia Islamia, Bhatkal, will hold a series of educational programmes of national and international level to mark its 50th anniversary on 18, 19, 20, and 21 March.

All programmes would be held under the presidency of Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Husaini Nadvi, patron of Jamia Islamia, Bhatkal, and President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).

The main theme of the convention is: “The role of Islamic madrasas in establishing peace in the world”.

An exhibition on Islam, Quran and Humanity, Nawayathi culture, and contribution of Jamia graduates will also be put up during the convention.

Dignitaries such as K Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shankar Bidari, Karnataka DGP, Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, State Education Minister, E T Muhammad Basheer, MP and former minister for education , Kerala, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, Former Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Maulana Syed Rabey Husaini Nadvi, President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Shri Brahamanand Saraswati Swamiji, Dharmasthala Devara Gudde, Shri Gurudeva Mathadesha, Moulana Nizamuddin, General Secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Muhammad Salim Qasmi, Principal, Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Abdullah Mughaisi, President, All India Milli Council, Maulana Syed Salman Nadvi, President, Jamiat-e-Shabab, Dr. Saeedur Rahman Azmi, Principal, Nadva University, Lucknow, and others are expected to participate in the convention.

About 1100 students are currently studying at the Jamia. The institution has 47 teaching staff and 30 non teaching staff.

The curriculum adopted by the Jamia is of Darul-Uloom Nadwatul-Ulama, Lucknow, an Islamic academy of international repute. It comprises of religious subjects such as Tafseer, Hadith, jurisprudence etc on one hand, and English, Kannada, Hindi, Geography, Science, Economics, Political Science, History, Mathematics on the other.

Most Maktabs and Madrasas in and around Bhatkal follow the syllabus adopted and recommended by the Jamia.

Mangaluru, Apr 24: The last rites of the elderly woman who died of covid-19 yesterday was finally held in the wee hours of Friday amidst tight security at Kaikunje Hindu Rudra Bhoomi near BC Road bus stand in spite of severe opposition from the members of the own community.

The funeral was held as per the protocol for COVID-19 deaths, police said.

Prior to this hundreds of Hindus had staged a protest  last night in front of Pachanady Hindu Rudra Bhoomi near Vamanjoor following reports that the the 77-year-old coronavirus positive woman's mortal remains will be cremated there.

Mangaluru North MLA Bharat Shetty rushed to the spot and convinced the protesters that he will not allow the authorities to cremate the body at Pachanady. Hence, the authorities shifted the cremation venue, it is learnt. 

Meanwhile, many local residents staged protest at Pachanady against the cremation of the dead body of a coronavirus positive woman. Hence, additional police force was sent from Mangaluru to disperse the crowd and facilitate the last rite.

According to sources, initially the authorities had  planned to cremate body at Baddakatte Hindu Rudra Bhoomi near here native place in Bantwal. However, the locals and the community elders had forced the authorities to change the plan.

Such protests due to misconception about the spread of coronavirus had been witnessed in some other parts of the country, including in Chennai, and the governments have warned of action against those opposing cremation or burial of COVID-19 patients.

So far as many as 17 covid-19 postive cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada including two deaths from same family from Bantwal's Kasba village.

Udupi, Jul 14: Abhijna Rao, a student of Vidyodaya PU College, Udupi, has emerged state topper in the science stream of II PUC. 

Abhijna has secured 596 marks in the II PUC examination-2020, the results of which were announced on Tuesday July 14. She scored a perfect 100 marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science (PCMC). In Sanskrit and English she scored 100 and 96 marks respectively.

She had secured second position in the Karnataka SSLC examinations two years ago.

She is daughter of Asha Rao and Vittal Rao, a retired professor. Her sister Raksha Rao has completed Engineering from NITK Suratkal.

“After securing second rank in the state in SSLC, my target was to score more in PUC examinations. My parents and lecturers have supported me in my studies. All my teachers gave me proper guidance. Vidyodaya College also supported me. I was studying on a daily basis. The exams were easy and I had expected to score above 590. I am very happy to score 596," she said.

Udupi, June 26: BJP leader K Raghavendra Kini has been appointed as the new Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) by Government of Karnataka.

A well-known businessman, Raghavendra Kini is also serving as the president of Kunjibettu Consumers’ Multipurpose Co-operative Union.

Along with him, the State Government has appointed Suma Naika, Praveen Kumar Shetty and Kishor Kumar as members of the Authority.
