Sunil Cyprian D'Souza awarded doctorate from NITK

Mangalore, March 5: Sunil Cyprian D'Souza has been awarded PhD under the guidance of Dr. A. H. Sequeira, former registrar and Professor in the Dept. of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management.

He obtained his doctoral degree in healthcare management for his thesis “Service Quality and Performance in Healthcare Organizations” on February, 25 2012 from the Premier Institute, National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, India.

He has presented papers in national and international conferences and published papers in national and international Journals and research work has recognized in a reputed Journal of Health management, USA.

Presently he is working as assistant professor, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore.

He is married to Diana Lobo, Associate professor, Laxmi Memorial college of Nursing, Mangalore and blessed with two cherished daughters, Sinora and Siona.

Udupi, May 20: All the six fishermen were rescued from a deep-sea fishing boat, which capsized after hitting a rock near Malpe here yesterday. 

The boat was owned by Reshma Kharvi. The incident occurred while the boat was returning after fishing to Malpe harbor. 

The helmsman lost control over the boat after steering got damaged and hit the rock and damaged. 

The crew of another boat which was near to the sinking boat immediately rushed and rescued six fishermen.

Attempts to rescue the sinking boat using the yet another boat could not materialise. 

The loss is said to be about Rs 80 lakh, including Rs. 5 lakh worth items, including fish, net, and other accessories. The boat ventured from Malpe port on May 14.

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, on completion of one year of his government, today said coronavirus hampered his development plans for the state.

He said the state will not see a lockdown again "at any cost".

"Due to coronavirus we couldn't meet people's expectations but now we'll not have lockdown in Karnataka at any cost. In future we're going to fulfill whatever I announced in Budget. If necessary we'll take loans and complete all development work," said Yediyurappa.

"Covid has hampered development plans of Karnataka, lot more needs to be done, i'm committed to providing an able, stable government," he said.

Arrangements were made for virtual celebrations to mark the one-year anniversary of Yediyurappa government at Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Social distancing was maintained at the event.

A record 5,199 new COVID-19 cases and 82 deaths were reported from Karnataka on Sunday, the state's health department said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 96,141, including 58,417 active cases and 35,838 recoveries.

So far, 1,878 deaths have been reported from Karnataka. Karnataka is the only state to have over 50,000 active cases with overall tally below 1 lakh.

Mangaluru, May 19: With lockdown 4.0 coming into force, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) started bus services from Mangaluru to various destinations today.

According to officials, buses started plying from Mangaluru to Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Hubballi and other areas with limited passengers. A bus, which left for Bengaluru from Mangaluru had less than 30 passengers on board.

“Depending on the demand, the buses will be operated with 50% of the capacity. Measures have been taken to ensure that social distancing norms are adhered to while purchasing tickets from the counter,” said S N Arun, KSRTC Divisional Controller.

However, the KSRTC is yet to take a decision on operating Nagarasarige buses in the city. 

“Only those destinations, which can be reached by 7 pm has been considered by the KSRTC while operating the buses. As a result, after 11 am, no buses will travel to Bengaluru from Mangaluru. Further, permission will not be accorded for the travelling of pregnant women, children below 10 years old and senior citizens above 60 years old. Thermal scanning is used for checking the temperature of the passengers before boarding the buses. All the buses are sanitised after each trip,” he said.

Further, he said the contact number, name and address of the passengers are collected by the officials during the travel.
