Blood donation camp held in Manipal Institute of Communication

Manipal, March 4: Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) in association with the Kasturba Hospital Blood Bank, organized its fifth annual blood donation camp on Saturday here.

The camp was held on the college premises and as a part of extra-curricular activities of final year students of MS communication.

The event was graced by Dr Annama Kurien, Associate Dean and Head of Department of Pathology at Melaka Manipal Medical College. Other dignitaries from Manipal University present at the inauguration were Dr Sudha Bhat, Head, Blood Bank, Kasturba Hospital, Dr MV Kamath, Honorary Director of MIC and Prof Varadesh Hiregange, Director of MIC.

The inaugural ceremony was kicked off with a prayer followed by a skit performed by the students of MIC sending across the message 'Socho mat, kar ke dekho, ahchcha lagta hai' (Don't think, just do it, it feels good!).

On this occasion, Darryl D'souza, a donor said that it was a wonderful feeling to donate blood, witness the hospitality and understand the importance behind it. “I feel proud to be a donor”, he added.

While majority of the donors were students, faculty from various MU colleges also turned up in huge numbers to support the noble cause. As many as 177 units of blood were collected that included 32 bottles of A+ve, 2 bottles of A-ve, 57 bottles of B+ve, 6 bottles of B-ve, 62 bottles of O+ve, 4 bottles O-ve, 12 bottles of AB+ve and 2 bottles of AB-ve.

Dr Sarojini, one of the organizing doctors, said, “The camp received a wonderful response and we are really looking forward to the next year's blood donation drive to be organized by MIC”.

New Delhi, Feb 2: Budget 2020 announcement that insurance behemoth LIC will be listed was well received by market participants who said this will be "IPO of the decade" akin to the Saudi Aramco listing.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) will be listed as part of the government disinvestment initiative.

A "highlight of the budget is the LIC IPO, which is akin to the Saudi Aramco listing for Indian capital markets, and will be IPO of the decade," Vijay Bhushan, President, Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI) said.

According to Krishna Kumar Karwa, Managing Director, Emkay Global Financial Services, the LIC IPO will be a big positive for corporate governance and transparency and will open up one more avenue for fund raising for the government over the years.

Metropolitan Stock Exchange, Interim CEO, Balu Nair said: "The LIC listing will be eagerly awaited by investors and will provide huge fillip to capital raising through the primary market." The government proposes to sell a part of its holding in LIC through an initial public offer, Sitharaman said while presenting Budget 2020-21.

"The government will sell part of LIC through its listing in the stock market which is also a positive trigger for the market," Amit Gupta, CO-Founder and CEO, TradingBells.

Jaideep Hansraj, MD and CEO of Kotak Securities said listing of LIC would help bridge a gap in the Fiscal Deficit for FY21.

Currently, the government owns the entire 100 per cent stake in LIC.

Saudi Aramco shares were listed in December last year.

Bengaluru, Aug 4 : Without mentioning any party leader's name, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Monday appealed to Congress workers not to make any "defamatory statement" against any political leader on social media platforms.

Taking to Twitter, Shivakumar wrote, "I appeal to Congress workers not to make defamatory statements against any political leader, on matters of health and other issues on social media platforms. It is not in our culture to wish bad for others. Congress is a party that exemplifies brotherhood and humanity."

His statement comes days after Rajya Sabha MP and AICC in-charge for Gujarat, Rajiv Satav comment where he suggested that introspection in the party should begin from the time of the United Progressive Alliance -II government.

Later, Satav took to Twitter to clarify his remarks at Thursday's meeting of the party's Upper House MPs. Satav, through a series of tweets on Saturday, said he was not comfortable discussing what goes on inside party meetings in forums outside.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: The Karnataka government is studying in-depth the consequences of the possible relaxation of lockdown norms after April 14 and plans to come out with a clear roadmap in a day or two, a key Minister said on Sunday.

Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar, who is in charge of all matters related to COVID-19, told PTI that the pros and cons of any decision that the Government intends to take is being looked at in detail.

"We are trying to understand how the situation would be of any action that we intend to take. We need to foresee the repercussions or results of our action. That we have to keep it in mind and make a decision. After-effects of the decisions we intend to take, that is more important, he said. You will have clarity (on the possible relaxation of lockdown norms) in a day or two. For everything (government decisions) we will give the reasoning for what action we would like to take; with the reasoning, we will give a decision," the Minister added.

Government sources said some relaxation in liquor sales, stopped during the lock-down period, is likely after the ongoing 21-day national clampdown ends on April 14. Twelve of the state's 30 districts remain free from the COVID-19 pandemic. Till Saturday, Karnataka reported 215 COVID-19 positive cases, including six deaths and 39 discharges.
