MCC officials seize 500 kg of banned plastic bags

Mangalore, March 5: Mangalore City Corporation teams on Monday raided on several plastic carry bag dealers under the instructions of Commissioner.

The raid was conducted by two separate teams. The team headed by Manjunath R Shetty, Environmental Engineer, MCC comprised of Sanitation Inspectors Santhosh, Karunakar and sanitation supervisor Raja. It covered Central Market, Bunder, Bibi Alibi road, Kadri market. The other team was headed by S N Bhat, AHO. Sanitation inspectors Babu Mallanna, Bharath, Sushanth, Ramu and Nirmala were part of the team.

Around 500 Kg of banned plastic carry bags were seized during the raid on Thalash Plastics, Amarnath Traders, Pompei Plastics and Cool Cotton.

Some of the vegetable vendors in central market, flower vendors and foot path traders near State Bank, vendors in fish market were also using the banned plastic carry bags. They were penalized. Total of 17 offenders have been penalized, said a release from MCC.

As the team approached the Thalash plastic whole-sale dealer, shop worker was found stealthily moving a gunny bag with plastic carry bags which was seized and the shop has been penalized.

Mangaluru, April 3: A police officer in Sullia town of Dakshina Kannada district got injured on Friday after unidentified youth pelted stones at him.

The incident took place when the cop stopped them from entering into the state from Kerala in the view of nationwide lockdown. He was later administered medical aid.

Udupi/Mangaluru, Mar 1: A total of twenty leaplings were born in the hospitals of the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada (DK) districts on Saturday, February 29, district health department said on Sunday.

According to the district health department, sixteen babies were born in DK district while Udupi district saw four births. More boys than girls were born in DK (12–4) and it was the inverse in Udupi district (3–1).

Shivamogga, May 21: A quarantine facility at Bapuji Nagar in Shivamogga on Wednesday evening was vandalised, by a group of people. leading to chaos.

The police had to resort to baton-charge to control the situation.

Locals were opposing the facility, which is being used to isolate travellers from different states in the view of coronavirus.

Deputy Commissioner KB Sivakumar said that the police department will investigate and book a case against the protesters.
