Anandotsava - 12 begins at NMAM Institute of Technology

Nitte, March 8: A state level inter-collegiate three day cultural mega event, Anandotsava '12, organized by NMAM Institute of Technology, NITTE, was inaugurated by B Ananthakrishna, Chairman, Karnataka Bank Ltd on Thursday at the College Auditorium.

In his inaugural speech Mr Ananthakrishna said, of the four stages of a man's life, the student life is most important where they learn and acquire knowledge to become a responsible citizen of the country.

Giving example of Akhilesh Yadav of Uttar Pradesh who is responsible to change the state government in the recent elections held, Mr.Anathakrishna said, the knowledge and talent will stand in students' endeavor to give pure and good life of discipline. He made a wish that anandotsava becomes “sachidanandotsava”.

Dr S Y Kulkarni, Principal of the college in his presidential address said that “Anandotsava is a platform to bring out and exhibit cultural and literary talents of the technical students. These talents are considered as one of the attributes of a global engineer, he said.

He said that Anandotsava, an intercollegiate event started some years back with only few colleges participating, today has become a mega event with more than 1000 students taking part from about 50 Engineering colleges, all over the state. He wished that Anandotsava becomes a Technical University level Mega Fest.

Dr Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Vice Principal, welcomed the gathering. Prof Yuvaraju B N, Chairman of Oraganizing committee gave a brief overview about the activities of Anandotsava -12. Prof. Shalini K Sharma, Head, Dept. of placement and Counseling and chairperson of Inauguration Committee proposed the vote of thanks. Shailesh introduced the chief guest to the audience. Anusha and Nisarga compered the ceremony. Sumana Rao and team performed welcome dance which encompassed within itself the joy of the fest.

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 10: At least 15 RSS activists protesting against the 16th Chikkamagaluru District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Sringeri were detained, Police said here on Friday.

The Sangh Parivar activists gathered near the entrance of the hall where the event was being held and started sloganeering against the election of the leftist Kalkuli Vittal Hegde as the president of the literary gathering. The police then interfered and detained several protesters to bring situation under control.

Despite protests from the right wing organisations, the event went ahead and began as per the schedule.

Bengaluru, Jul 10: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has quarantined himself at his personal residence after three persons posted at his official residence 'Krishna' tested positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister, who held a cabinet meeting and also visited Karnataka's largest COVID-19 care centre on Thursday, has cancelled all his engagements scheduled for Friday.

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, Yediyurappa said that he was healthy and will continue to work from his residence. The Chief Minister will remain in home quarantine till next week as protocol mandates. Three persons -- an electrician, a standby driver and a pilot vehicle staffer -- have tested positive for COVID-19.

"Since a few staff at my official residence Krishna have tested positive for COVID19, I will be working from my personal residence for the next few days. I will hold meetings, consultations and issue orders and suggestions via video conferencing. There is no need to worry. I am healthy. I appeal to everyone to take all precautionary measures and follow protocols issued by the government. Wear masks and ensure social distancing and help us contain COVID19," a statement from the Chief Minister said.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: A 57-year-old man died of COVID-19 in Kalaburagi on Monday taking the fatalities due to the virus in Karnataka to 20.

"One more person died due to COVID-19 in the state. The 57-year-old person was tested positive for coronavirus on April 21," Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar tweeted on Monday evening.

The minister said he was admitted to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences with respiratory problem.

He was also suffering from severe liver related ailments.

"With this five deaths have taken place in Kalaburagi district due to the virus," the minister added in his tweet.

The first COVID-19 death in the country was reported from Kalaburagi in March.
