13th cruise vessel calls at New Mangalore Port

Mangalore, March 8: Cruise vessel M V Seaboourn Legend with 190 cruise passengers and 173 crew members called at New Mangalore Port on Thursday.

This is the 13th cruise vessel calling at the Port during the current financial year 2011-12.

The vessel came to NMPT as its first port of call from Indonesia and sailing out to Goa later in the evening and from there to Mumbai Port.

Majority of the passengers were from USA & UK. 134 passengers have opted for ground tour arranged by M/s Lia Travels, Mangalore, the local tour operators.

The passengers have visited places like cashew processing unit at Bykampady, 1000 Pillar Jain temple, Moodabidri, Soans Farm, monolithic statue of gomateshwara, at Karkala, Gokarnanatha temple, Kadri temple, St. Aloysius chapel, etc.

M/s J.M. Baxi & Co. are the agents of the vessel. Another 14 passengers have disembarked at the port and opted to go by air to Delhi and Agra and will be boarding the same vessel at Mumbai. Being the First Port of Call, arrangements were made for immigration by the local officers duly authorised by the Bangalore Immigration Authority.

Dr. P. Tamilvanan has stated that this cruise liner is in her repeated 3rd call to NMPT during the current financial year. 4 more vessels are scheduled to call during the last week of the current month. A giant cruise vessel M.V. BRILLIANCE OF SEA with 3000 passengers and 1200 crew is also expected to call at the Port on 1st April 2012 which will be the largest cruise vessel ever calling at the Port. This giant vessel having a length of 298 metres is again expected to call at NMPT on April 12, 2012.

Mangaluru, May 5: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has denotified two containment zones, Sampya in Puttur and Thumbe in Bantwal. They were declared containment zones after one coronavirus positive case was reported from each area.

All the primary and secondary contacts of the patients have completed home quarantine period, said DC Sindhu B Rupesh.

The district administration hitherto had already denotified three other such containment zones based on a report of DHO,  after no new case was reported in the area in the last 28 days.

At present, the district has six containment zones-- Shakthinagara, Boloor, First Neuro Hospital in Mangaluru city, Uppinangady in Puttur, Kasaba and Narikombu in Bantwal taluk.

Mangaluru, Apr 22: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha, on Wednesday, interacted with families of Covid-19 warriors of the Police Department through a special video conference to infuse confidence in them.

He spoke to the family members of the police personnel who, along with ASHA workers, are monitoring the home quarantined people and even assist them in supplying essentials and medicines.

Most of the family member of the police personnel were of North Karnataka origin and the Commissioner asked them to stay safe by staying at home and explained to them the good work done by their family members in the Police Department.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former union minister and Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that if at all there is a political future for Sachin Pilot it is in the Congress party.

While speaking to news agency, Moily said Sachin Pilot achieved everything by being in Congress party.

"Sachin Pilot became MP, union minister in UPA-II, PCC president in Rajasthan and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Whatever grievances you have, it needs to be resolved within the forum of the party. There is no hurry for Sachin Pilot. If at all there is a future for him it is in the Congress party. He has to realise that. He says he won't join BJP, it is good," Moily said.

The former Union Minister Moily further said that Pilot could not become Chief Minister as in Congress, the high command sends an observer and opinion of MLAs is ascertained, be it in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

"The leader who enjoys the support of elected MLAs is made Chief Minister," Moily said.
On July 14, Congress party had sacked Sachin Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and also from PCC president.

The Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil over the past few days. State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has blamed the BJP for attempting to destabilise the state government by poaching MLAs. The Congress government in the state is facing a political crisis after simmering differences between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot came out in the open.

A controversy broke out in Rajasthan after Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Pilot to record his statement in the case registered by SOG in the alleged poaching of Congress MLAs in the state.
