Udupi, March 8: Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramiah on Thursday said that the BJP government in Karnataka has failed miserably in upholding the dignity and honour of the 'temple of democracy'

Addressing media persons prior to his door to door canvas in a Dalit colony in Kadubettu near here, the Congress leader said that the state Assembly has witnessed a series of disgraceful developments during the last four years of BJP rule.

“For the first time in the history of Karnataka, Supreme Court passed strictures against the Assembly Speaker in the controversial case of disqualification of some independent MLAs. Ministers were caught watching porn clippings. Unfortunately, Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda too backed the porn-tainted MLAs endangering the dignity of the House. Moreover around a dozen ministers in the state cabinet are accused in different cases including rape, illegal mining and land grabbing”, Mr Siddaramaiah said. “Political values had been demoralised to the cores”, he added.

Mocking at the development claims of BJP, he said that the State government could not generate even single extra unit of power throughout its rule. “Though the government had announced a power project in Chhattisgarh, it failed to take off as no money was spent on that. Moreover, there had been shortage of over 500 electric transformers, due to which even drinking water supply system is also hit in the rural areas”, he said.

He also said that there was no proper supply of veterinary medicine and fodder in the state despite BJP leaders claim themselves to be the saviours of cattle.

Mulki-Moodabidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain was also present.

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 28: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Public Works Govind Karjol on Tuesday said that he is ready to quit if the post asks him to do so to pave way for smooth expansion of the Cabinet.

Responding to a question from media persons on the issue here, he said he was ready to quit his post any time.

“If the party asks me to resign now, I will send back my official car and return by bus”, he added.

Further, he opined that there should not be efforts to seek a berth in the Cabinet based on caste.

“Putting pressure on the party based on caste is not right. The party will consider those who worked for the party and also take district-wise representation into account while filling up the vacancies”, he added.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Satish Jarakiholi on Sunday said that as per the party sources, state chief minister BS Yediyurappa has got only six months' time and there are different teams working against Yediyurappa in their party.

The BJP high command has decided to bring down Yediyurappa, Jarakhioli said. He added, "Yediyurappa had asked BJP high command to appoint him Chief Minister for six months and due to corona, his period has been extended. But now their own party sources have revealed that he has got only another six months."

While addressing the issue of different statements by BJP leaders and ministership aspirants after five MLCs were nominated, Jarakiholi said "Yediyurappa followers are not actual followers. BJP high command has already decided to bring down Yediyurappa as per their own party sources."

While speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said there are teams formed in the names of deputy CMs and there are many who are working in their party against Yediyurappa.

He also said that it's up to their party what they think about Yediyurappa's tenure, whether they keep him as CM or remove him. Being in Opposition, now Congress is only working on strengthening the party, he said.
