Kambala held in Jeppinamogaru

Mangalore, March 11: A double-track kambala was held on Saturday in Jeppinamogaru on the banks of the Netravathi for the second consecutive year.

The event was organized by Jaya-Vijaya Jodukere Kambala committee in memory of the late Jayagangadhara Shetty.

Inaugurated the event, Brahma Shri Vedamurty Vittaldas Tantri, Derebail, said that Jayagangadhar was very popular for his social service and was particularly known for encouraging buffalo racers. When he was alive he was regularly encouraging cultural events and he was an inspiration to everyone. It is worth remembering Jayagangadhar by organizing Kambala in his hometown and it is a tribute from his family, he added.

Dozens of pairs of buffalos from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts participated in the Kambala. Competitions were held in “negilu”, “hagga kiriya-hiriya”, “kanehalage” and “addahalage” categories.

Udupi, Feb 29: Senior Congress leader and Udupi’s crackers trader K Krishnaraja Saralaya allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well outside his house at Paniyadi on Saturday.

He was 87, Krishnaraja was leading a solitary life. It is suspected that he ended his life ''due to mental agony''.

He is survived by two daughters. One is settled in Australia another is in Bengaluru. Saralaya had also served as President of Udupi Town Co-operative Society. The police visited the spot .

Tumuku, Jul 6: Senior Congress leader and Kunigal MLA Dr H D Ranganathm tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

The 48-year-old Congress legislature, a doctor by himself, was admitted to Manipal hospital and recovering, he said in a tweet.

Dr Ranganath said he took all precautions, yet could not save himself from the virus and advice people to not to take the contagion lightly.

Mangaluru, Jan 5: To keep an hawk's eye on the city, 15 prominent and crowded junctions in the city will have the most advanced CCTV cameras installed under the Smartcity project.

The junctions are-- Bejai KSRTC, Pumpwell, Vamanjoor, Padil, Mullikatte, Bejai, Bendoor, Falnir, Morgans Gate, Kulashekara-Shakthinagar Cross, Kottara Chowki, Kuntikan, Rao & Rao Circle, Padavinangady and Kavoor junctions.

According to top police officials, these junctions will receive approximately 75 cameras to check crime and aid in solving the cases of murder and robbery in the city.

A ‘smartpole’ will be installed there with each pole containing about five cameras along with a 360 degree swivelling camera.

Better to install in Police station itself, at least it can reveal undisclosed Bhaithak.
