Man stabs duo for helping his daughter to elope with boyfriend

Mangalore, March 14: Two youths were hospitalized with severe stab injuries after they were assaulted by a man for allegedly helping latter's daughter to elope with her boyfriend at Uppinangady near here on Tuesday.

According to police, the injured are Riyaz (30) son of Abdurrahman, and Tausif (30), son of U K Haroon, both residents of Uppinangady. The accused is National Mohammed.

It was said that Mohammed's daugher Hannath who had been to Corporation Bank ATM and did not return home. However, romour began to spread that she had eloped with her beau Shabbir.

In fact, Hannath's marriage was fixed with one Shameel, who is working in Saudi Arabia. However, she had continued her affair with Shabbir, even after her engagement.

Enraged over the missing of his daughter, Mohammed assaulted two friends of Shabbir and later surrendered before the police along with the knife used for assaulting. A case has been registered.

Mangaluru/ Udupi, June 19: As many as 13 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in Dakshina Kannada on June 19, taking the total number of cases in the coastal district to 414. In Udupi, the total number of covid cases mounted to 1,050 with 11 new cases.

Four among the 13 patients in Dakshina Kannada had returned from Saudi Arabia and seven had returned from Sharjah recently. Two others were suffering from an influenza-like illness (ILI). All the 13 patients have been shifted to the designated COVID hospital in Mangaluru.

In Udupi, three among the 11 new covid patients are children. Four are Maharashtra returnees and two had come from Tamil Nadu. Five others have contracted infection from other positive patients. 

Only 98 cases are currently active in Udupi among 1,050. As many as 950 patients have been discharged from hospital. Two deaths have occurred in the district including one on Friday.

Mangaluru, May 27: Karnataka’s twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi today reported 11 and 9 fresh covid-19 cases respectively.

In Dakshina Kannada the covid-19 patients include seven women and four men who had recently come from Maharashtra.

One of the patients is a 3-year-old child. Others are girls aged 11 and 17, women aged 36, 37, 45, 59 and men aged 22, 35, 39 and 46.

All of them have been shifted to covid-19 hospital from different institutional quarantine centres. 

In Udupi too all the nine people – six men, a boy, and two women -  had come from Maharashtra a few days ago.

Mysuru, Feb 7: Former chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday said that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led government is not stable and it can fall at any moment.

"Karnataka Government is not a stable one. With the developments taking place, it can fall at any moment," Kumaraswamy told reporters when asked to comment on the Karnataka Cabinet expansion.

Earlier in the day, 10 MLAs including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar and BA Basavaraja took oath as Cabinet Ministers at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru.
