Boat repairer crushed to death under fishing boat

Mangalore, March 22: A boat repairer crushed to death under a fishing boat, which accidentally fell on him after repair on Thursday evening at Thota Bengre, here.

The deceased has been identified as Ashraf, a resident of Bengre. His colleague Aslam sustained severe injuries on his hand in the incident.

The tragedy occurred at around 3:00pm, when the fishermen and workers were preparing to pull the boat, belonged to one Prakash Uchina, into water for fishing voyage.

The body of Ashraf, who died on spot, was immediately shifted to Government Winlock Hospital for postmortem.

Mangalore MLA U T Khader visited the mortuary and consoled the grieving family members. He said that officials of department of fisheries have pledged to release Rs 50,000 relief for the kin of the deceased.

Another worker, whose hand was fractured in the incident, was rushed to a private hospital in the city.

A case has been registered at Panambur police station.

Mangaluru, Feb 25: The coastal city of Mangaluru today witnessed yet another major agitation against infamous CAA, NPR and NRC with large number of people gathering at Kudroli’s Tipu Sultan Garden to register their protest against union government’s racist policies.

Addressing the gathering activist B R Bhaskar Prasad said, he knows the RSS inside out as he was associated with it for a prolonged period.

He said the ultimate aim of RSS is to establish a casteist society in India with the micro-minority community of Brahmins having complete control over all other major communities. 

Lambasting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for constantly harassing people of India through back to back contentious legislations, he said that the duo poised to destroy the country.

Bengaluru, Mar 2: The Karnataka Department of Public Instruction has directed the School heads across the State to grant leave to students and staff suffering from fever, cold, cough and other respiratory infections.

As precautionary measure following the COVID-19 (known as coronavirus) outbreak at the global level, the department issued a circular in this regard here on Monday.

If any student, teacher or staff is suffering from respiratory infections, they should be granted leave. They should be allowed to come back to school only after confirming from the doctor that they are cured, the circular added.

Mysuru, Jan 20: A 100-member team of National Security Guards (NSG) has arrived in the city for bolstering security measures in the tourist centre and to demonstrate the preparedness of the elite force to tackle any exigency in the region.

The annual maintenance of the Mysuru Palace will be taken up on Monday and the NSG commandos are expected to give suggestions and directions for improving the security at the place. It is also said that the commandos may visit Mysuru airport.
