March 23, 2012

Mangalore, March 23: To draw the attention of concerned authorities towards repair of potholed roads in several places of the city and outside, a five minute horn honking protest was held in various parts of the city on Fiday.

Protestors and representatives of various organisations such as DK Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union, DK Bus Operators Association, Kanara Bus Owners Association, City Bus Owners Association, Quarry & Stone Crushers Association, Lions Clubs, Jaycees, Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike honked their vehicle horns for five minutes in various places of the city such as Navabharat circle, Big Bazaar, Kudroli etc.

Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Ivan D'Souza, President of one of the auto rickshaw unions, blamed the state government for the poor condition of roads in the city. “Bad roads signify bad governance. Although funds are allotted for development of roads, poor quality roads are prepared with middlemen gulping a lot of that money. We appeal that the government repair the roads as soon as possible so that inconvenience is not caused to people”, he said.
