Ramotsav' begins with pomp in city

Mangalore, March 31: A grand Shri Ramotsav was inaugurated at Nehru Maidan in the city on Saturday.

The three day event is being organized under the joint auspices of the Vishwa Hindu Parishath, Bajrang Dal and Shri Ramothsav Samithi.

After the flag hoisting by Rotary governor Dr Devdas Rai the idol of Seetaram was installed in the morning. Following the mahapooja, prasad distribution was held.

In the evening Bhajans will be performed. At the religious meeting in the evening Shri Ramananda Swamiji, Shri Mohan Das Swamiji, Shri Rajashekharananda Swamiji will be present along with N Yogish Bhat, Captain Ganesh Karnik, K S Nityananda, Dr Dayananda Pai and Nalin Kumar Kateel. At 8 pm there will be Bhakti Rasamanjari by Ramakrishna Katukukke.

On April 1 Shri Ramanavami special pooja will be held. There will be a Kabaddi tournament for the workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal and for the workers of Mathru Mandali and Durgavahani various sports competitions will be conducted. On the same day at 8 pm there will be a Tulu drama “Tulunad Beere Devu Poonje” by Lion Kishore D Shetty and team.

On the third day under the leadership of Vidwan Ganesh Raj, Seetharam Kalyanothsav will take place. At 7 pm there will be Punya Lahari (Shabari) a dance drama by Sanathana Natyalaya, Mangalore. On the same day at 9 pm burning of Ravana and an attractive fireworks display will be showcased.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.

Udupi, Aug 1: A girl child died five persons suffered injuries in a car accident today on National Highway-66 near Ambalpady in Udupi.

According to sources, two couples and children were travelling in the car from Mangaluru to Shikaripura when the tragedy took place. 

The speeding car rammed into the road divider and flipped over after the driver lost control over it near Ambalpady. 

Among the injured, the condition of a woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

A case has been registered at Udupi town traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.

Mangaluru, Feb 28: Two labourers lost their lives as they were buried alive in a landslip at Karangalpady Junction near Bunts Hostel in the city today.

The landslip occurred when a compound wall collapsed burying at least five persons under the debris. It is feared that three people are still under the debris.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Masood (20) from West Bengal and Bhimappa (25) from Bagalkote.

Local police and fire fighters are carrying out rescue operation.
