Udupi CMC approves Rs. 81.09 lakh surplus budget

Udupi, April 1: The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) on Saturday approved a surplus budget of Rs. 81.09 lakh for 2012-13 at its general body meeting here.

The budget presented by CMC president Kiran Kumar showed receipts at Rs. 136.66 crore while the expenditure had been projected at Rs. 135.84 crore.

Mr. Kumar said that a bridge would be built from Malpe to Padukere at a cost of Rs. 7.5 crore and the tender process was in the final stage. The bridge has been a long-pending demand of the people of Padukere.

A sum of Rs. 1 crore has been earmarked for improving the traffic system and facilitating smooth movement of vehicles in the city. The circles at various road junctions will be modernised.

The CMC, which has listed houses which have no toilets, will construct toilets at a cost of Rs. 20,000 each. The Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme for the members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be extended for 2012-13.

The land acquisition process for widening of Kanakadasa Road is in the final stage. The Main Fish Market in the city will be modernised using a grant of Rs. 2 crore from the National Fisheries Development Board.

The CMC has spent Rs. 13 crore for land acquisition to widen the road from Tangadagadi to Kalsanka. A 60-foot road will be built here at a cost of Rs. 7.5 crore. The land acquisition process for widening the Diana Circle has been completed, and the work will be completed in 2012-13.

Road widening will also be taken up at Taluk Office-Korangarapady stretch.

To have spacious office, the CMC has urged the government to hand over the old Deputy Commissioner's office so that some CMC offices could be shifted there.

The renovation of the Town Hall, at a cost of Rs. 4 crore, is in the final stages. The CMC office will be computerised at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh.

Mysuru, Jan 16: A day after the Mysuru Advocates’ Association refused to defend a student in Mysuru who has been charged with sedition case for displaying a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard, president of the People’s Lawyers’ Guild of Davangere, has come forward to appear in the Court on behalf of her.

Opposing the attack on JNU students and teachers at JNU recently, Nalini had displayed a ‘Free Kashmir’ placard during a protest on January 8 at Manasagangotri of the University of Mysore (UoM) campus here.

Members of the Mysuru Bar Association decided not to represent Nalini.

The Department of Preuniversity Education, Karnataka has declared the board exams or pre university I exam results. To get results online, the students need to log on to result.bspucpa.com and have to provide their registration number and date of birth. 
Apart from the online portal, the students will get the results via mail or SMS.

“The results of the first year Pre-University Examinations will be announced on May 5. The results will be sent directly to students. Hence, colleges will not be displaying the results,” said S Suresh Kumar, Primary and Secondary Education Minister. 

The pre-university course of PUC is a two-year course including class 11 and class 12 called PUC I and PUC II. It is based on PUC score that candidates can get admission to varsities.

Earlier, the Karnataka PUC 1 result was to be announced on March 27 which was postponed and hence the revised dates are announced now.

The board exam results have been put on halt due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed after the coronavirus pandemic gripped India. As of May 3, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in India had crossed over 40,000.

The HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had in a meeting asked state and central boards to resume their evaluation process and declare the results to curb any further delay in the academic cycle. The academic cycle has been delayed by over a month due to the coronavirus. Now, the colleges will start by September instead of July.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: The Janata Dal (Secular) will contest all the 243 assembly seats in Bihar, the elections for which are due in October-November this year, its state unit chief Haldhar Kant Mishra announced on Tuesday.

Mishra said party supremo Deve Gowda has asked him to expand JD(S)'s base and also to prepare itself for contesting all the constituencies in view of the zeal and enthusiasm shown by party workers and office-bearers.

Deve Gowda announced the decision during a virtual meeting with presidents of party's various cells and office- bearers, he said.

He assured that the party will provide all kinds of support for its expansion and selection of candidates for the Bihar polls, Mishra said.

The former prime minister told the party functionaries that several leaders from Bihar are in touch with him and they will join the JD(S) to play their part in the elections, he added.
