Manipal, April 1: The city bus fares in Udupi district have been revised by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) with effect from April 1.

According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the Udupi City Bus Owners' Association had earlier increased the fare by 50 paise for every stage. But there was a shortage of 50 paise coins in the banks. There were also quarrels for change between bus conductors and passengers.

As per the order of the State government, all fares had to be rounded up to the rupee. After having a thorough discussion at a meeting with the office-bearers of the association, bus owners, Consumers' Forum, and other organisations on February 16, the RTA revised the city bus fares.

The minimum fare has been revised from Rs. 4.50 to Rs. 5. The new fares are (existing rates in brackets): up to 2 km Rs. 5 (Rs. 4.50), 2.1 to 4 km, Rs. 6 (Rs. 5.50), 4.1 to 6 km Rs. 7 (Rs. 6.50), 6.1 to 8 km Rs. 8 (Rs. 7.50). From 8.1 to 10 km Rs. 8 (Rs. 7.50), 10.1 to 12 km Rs. 9 (Rs. 8.50), 12.1 to 14 km Rs. 10 (Rs. 9.50), 14.1 to 16 km Rs. 11 (Rs. 10.50), 16.1 to 18 km Rs. 13 (Rs. 12.50), and 18.1 to 20 km Rs. 13 (Rs. 12.50).

Auto fares

The RTA has also revised the autorickshaw fares applicable to the three taluks of the district with effect from May 1.

As per the order of the RTA, the minimum tariff has been revised to Rs. 20 for the first 1.5 km. It will be Rs. 14 for every km thereafter.

All autorichshaw operators should compulsorily install plug metres. They should get their metres recalibrated to the revised fares and get them sealed by April 30. They should compulsorily use the metres from May 1 and charge passengers as per the reading of the metres.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: Bracing for post-lockdown hard times, the Karnataka government on Monday decided to auction about 12,000 BDA sites and regularise unauthorised constructions across the state in a bid to shore up its already-thin finances.

"Some 12,000 corner sites (developed by Bangalore Development Authority, or BDA) are lying idle in Bengaluru. We hope to net about Rs 15,000 crore from the auction of the sites," chief minister BS Yediyurappa said after chairing a meeting with senior ministers and officials to discuss ways to raise funds.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown Karnataka into a deep financial crisis. There's a need for such measures," the chief minister said in defence of the decisions.

The sites – mainly of 40x60ft and 50x80ft dimensions – are in nine layouts. Also, the state government will auction corner and vacant sites in layouts formed by development authorities in other major cities of Karnataka.

Industry experts said that in a tepid market, it wasn’t easy to find buyers for the sites, each of which costs about Rs 1 crore. The CM said, “Since it’s an open auction, I’m confident of a good price since corner sites are always in demand. If we don’t get the expected price, then we will stop the process.”

The meeting decided to fast-track disposal of the cases related to regularisation of unauthorised constructions pending before courts. “If courts decide these cases, then thousands of people will be relieved, besides helping the government in mobilising resources to take up development works,” the CM said.

The government hopes to get about Rs 4,000 crore from the layout-regularisation move.
The government decided to amend the law to allow hundreds of private and cooperative housing societies to allot residential plots.

Bhopal, Mar 7: Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera on Saturday said that he was not in any kind of captivity in Bengaluru and he will meet Chief Minister Kamal Nath soon.

"I was in Bengaluru for my daughter's medical treatment. I was not in any kind of captivity. I will meet CM Kamal Nath soon," Shera told reporters here upon returning to Bhopal from Bengaluru.

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleged that the BJP had escorted four Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including three from his party, to Bengaluru.

"Last night, two charter planes were booked by BJP to take MLAs to Bengaluru. One was a 9-seater plane while the other was 12-seater. In the 12-seater plane, four MLAs were taken to Bengaluru. Out of them, three Congress MLAs Bisahulal Singh, Raghuraj Kansana and Hardeep Dang and one Independent MLA Surendra Singh Shera," Singh had said.

He has accused BJP of resorting to horse-trading in order to bring down the Kamal Nath government.
