Palm Sunday celebrated in city

Mangalore, April 1: Palm Sunday was celebrated by Christian brethren across the city on Sunday.

At Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Palm Sunday celebrations began with the blessing of palms near the grotto of 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel'. Rev. Fr Pius James D'Souza (Superior) blessed the palms and then the gathering marched towards the altar in a procession with palms in their hands.

The main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist was Rev. Fr. Pius James D'Souza. Rev Fr Deepak Tauro, Fr Melwyn D'Cunha, Rev Fr Steven Periera, Fr Alias D'Souza also took part.

The devotees in the celebration with devotion meditated upon the suffering of Jesus Christ on the way to crucifixion.

Karnataka Minister BC Patil tests positive for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Aug 1:: Karnataka Minister BC Patil on Friday said that he has tested positive for Coronavirus.

"The report has confirmed me to be corona positive. I am in home quarantine at my residence in Bangalore," he said in a tweet.

"During a recent visit to Koppal district, five of the staff members who accompanied me were reported to be coronavirus positive," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,483 new COVID-19 cases and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka, the state's health department informed on Friday.

Karnataka now has a total of 1,24,115 coronavirus cases, including 72,005 active cases and 49,788 discharges.

So far, 2,134 deaths have been reported from the state.

Karnataka CM in home quarantine after three staffers test covid positive

Bengaluru, Jul 10: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has quarantined himself at his personal residence after three persons posted at his official residence 'Krishna' tested positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister, who held a cabinet meeting and also visited Karnataka's largest COVID-19 care centre on Thursday, has cancelled all his engagements scheduled for Friday.

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, Yediyurappa said that he was healthy and will continue to work from his residence. The Chief Minister will remain in home quarantine till next week as protocol mandates. Three persons -- an electrician, a standby driver and a pilot vehicle staffer -- have tested positive for COVID-19.

"Since a few staff at my official residence Krishna have tested positive for COVID19, I will be working from my personal residence for the next few days. I will hold meetings, consultations and issue orders and suggestions via video conferencing. There is no need to worry. I am healthy. I appeal to everyone to take all precautionary measures and follow protocols issued by the government. Wear masks and ensure social distancing and help us contain COVID19," a statement from the Chief Minister said.

Nalin Kumar Kateel hits out at Kharge for anti-Modi remark

Chitradurga, Feb 10: President of the BJP State unit Nalin Kumar Kateel on Sunday hit out at Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly likening Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a “zero candle bulb”.

Mr. Kateel told reporters here that Mr. Modi was a “1,000 watt bulb that gave light to the world”, and compared Mr. Kharge to a lamp that had burned out politically.

Mr. Kateel charged that Mr. Kharge had become frustrated after losing the elections and after his party did not even consider him for a Rajya Sabha seat. And this had made the Congress leader to make wild charges against the Prime Minister.

Lashing out at the Congress, Mr. Kateel alleged that the Congress was continuing the “divide and rule” policy of the British and accused the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of being the “other face of the Congress”.

Mr. Kateel also came down on the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He ridiculed the Congress for the delay in choosing a new KPCC chief after Dinesh Gundu Rao submitted his resignation.
