Palm Sunday celebrated in city

Mangalore, April 1: Palm Sunday was celebrated by Christian brethren across the city on Sunday.

At Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Palm Sunday celebrations began with the blessing of palms near the grotto of 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel'. Rev. Fr Pius James D'Souza (Superior) blessed the palms and then the gathering marched towards the altar in a procession with palms in their hands.

The main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist was Rev. Fr. Pius James D'Souza. Rev Fr Deepak Tauro, Fr Melwyn D'Cunha, Rev Fr Steven Periera, Fr Alias D'Souza also took part.

The devotees in the celebration with devotion meditated upon the suffering of Jesus Christ on the way to crucifixion.

Udupi/Mangaluru, Apr 3: As many as 11 liquor addicts in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts have committed suicide, due to non-availability of liquor.

It is said that the District administration, in association with Psychiatrists, have taken the initiative to provide counselling services, along with telemedicine, to the addicts.

Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh said on Thursday that arrangements will be made to provide treatments and personal counselling for the liquor addicts.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital following a short circuit in the UPS room, said the fire department here on Sunday.

"Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital in Bengaluru, following a short circuit in the UPS room at the hospital today. Patients have been shifted from the site of the incident, as a precaution," the fire department in Bengaluru said.

"No fire incident reported and the situation is under control now," the fire department said.

Alappuzha, Dec 19: A Hindu couple, Anju and Sharath tied the knot at Cheruvally Muslim Jamaath Committee situated in Alappuzha district of South Kerala on Sunday.

The marriage took place as per Hindu rituals.

DH had earlier reported that the Jamaath Committee will conduct the marriage ceremony considering the request of the bride's mother, who hailed from a financially weak background.

Kerala Chief Minister Mr Pinarayi Vijayan shared the picture of the marriage on his social media post citing it as yet another instance of communal harmony in Kerala.
