Give importance to talent, infrastructure and funds: VC

Brahmavar, April 1: The UGC-funded women's hostel of Crossland College, Brahmavar was inaugurated by Prof. T.C. Shivashankara Murthy, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University on Friday.

In his inaugural address he stressed the need for an evergreen revolution, through quality education and good infrastructure. “Today's youth are all innovative and have constructive ideas which can be further enriched if they are given good infrastructure and quality teachers”, he said.

Mr Murthy said that India can become number one economic power in the world if youths are given good quality higher education. Youth should go for higher education because real education includes the social, cultural and spiritual development of a country, he said.

He also said that the quality of our graduates mainly depend on the quality of the teachers. Importance should be given to talent, infrastructure and fund only then higher education will improve and India can export their skilled workforce to other countries. He also thanked the Management of the college, Priority Educational Foundation for endowing an amount of Rs. 1 lakh, to institute a Gold Medal in memory of the founder of the institutions in the campus late Dr. C.T. Abraham.

The Management has requested the Vice Chancellor to institute a Gold medal to be presented to the first rank holder in the BA degree exams of Mangalore University.

Prof. Mathew C. Ninan, Managing Trustee of Priority Educational Foundation addressed the gathering .The hostel constructed at a cost of Rs.48 lakhs will be admitting students from next academic year.

Mysuru, Jan 20: As the Karnataka state Congress is still awaiting the appointment of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, MLA Satish Jarkiholi has said that in order to balance the caste and regional equations, All India Congress Committee (AICC) was planning to create four working presidents posts for KPCC.

Talking to media personnel here on Sunday, Mr Jarkiholi, who is considered to be in the race for the post, said that a clear picture about the constitution of additional posts of the working president in the KPCC would emerge in a week.

He added that it has been delayed due to the Assembly elections in Delhi.

Mangalore, Feb 4: Final chance to present evidence and record eyewitness statements with the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi G Jagadeesh regarding the December 19 violence will be held on February 6 between 1100 and 1300 hrs.

Eyewitness and evidence presenters can depose at the Assistant’s Commissioner’s Court Hall in the Mini Vidhan Soudha in the city.

The Deputy Commissioner said that no evidence would be accepted after this last round of public hearing.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the party's protest will continue until the Speaker will allow them to discuss BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's recent comments on freedom fighter HS Doreswamy.

"Our protest in the well of state assembly will continue until Speaker allows us to discuss about Basanagouda Patil Yatnal," Siddaramaiah said.

Congress MLAs staged a protest in the Karnataka Assembly and entered the well demanding BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yathnal's apology for his 'Pakistani agent' remark.

Earlier, Congress leaders on February 26 staged a protest on the same issue in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Vidhana Soudha.

Yathnal, on February 25, called Doreswamy a fake freedom fighter and a Pakistani agent while addressing the media. His comments triggered a controversy drawing sharp remarks from Congress and other parties.
