Mangalore, April 10: Karnataka state unit of Indian Union Muslim League has urged President Pratibha Patil to order an investigation into the misuse of wakf property in Karnataka and also direct the authorities concerned to preserve and utilise the same effectively.
The League cited report submitted by Anwar Manippady, chairman, Karnataka State Minorities Commission, to the state government that indicated usurping of wakf property worth Rs 2 lakh crore.
C Ahmed Jamal, vice-president of IUML, told reporters here on Monday that the President must direct the state government to undertake special investigation of the entire issue.
The report has hinted at the involvement of many legislators and officials in this scam, Ahmed said, adding that only a probe at the highest level will help unravel the truth.
Report of any such investigation ordered must be made public at the earliest, Ahmed said.
