Karwar, April 10: Uttara Kannada District Congress Committee president Bheemanna Naik has said that he would welcome if minister Anand Asnotikar joined the party. However, there was no such proposal from Mr Asnotikar, he clarified.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr Naik said that it would be choosy on people who wanted to join the party. Those joining the party would be screened before giving them membership.

He said, those who wanted to join the party for power were not welcome. Only those approved by party workers at the grassroots would be given membership.

Mr. Naik alleged that the State government had failed to supply drinking water in district where there was scarcity.

He said the zilla panchayat had no money to provide water to the needy. The Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat ruled by the Congress was doing well, but fund scarcity created problems, he added.

Uday Naik, vice-president of the zilla panchayat, said that the Ministers and MLAs controlled fund-flow to the zilla panchayat. The zilla panchayat was not provided funds directly by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

He said that he tried to draw the attention of the government in this regard.

The DCC president said that a team of Congress office-bearers would visit the areas affected by water scarcity in the district.

A protest would be organised in all taluks urging the government to provide tackle drinking water shortage, he added.

Satish Sail, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee member, Shambhu Shetty, general secretary of the DCC, and Deepak Waingankar, Block Congress president, were present.

"This will further dent the developmental prospects as Railways form a backbone of Transportation. Instead, the govt should have gifted us the values of our Constitution by upholding it," he added.
