More witnesses testify against cyanide Mohan Kumar

Mangalore, April 11: Witness testified before the Fast Track Court here on Tuesday that Sashikala of Bantwal Taluk who was reported missing on May 5, 2007, was found dead on the same evening at KSRTC bus stand in Mysore.

Madhusudhan testified that he had found the lifeless body of Sashikala on the floor of the second platform in Mysore KSRTC bus stand on the night of May 5. Lakshmi, a caretaker at the bus stand for over 15 years, testified on having witnessed Sashikala step into the women's toilet complex in the bus stand.

Lakshmi sought Rs 2 as user fee from Sashikala who promised to pay the fee on her return. However, she came out staggering and walked up to a distance of 10 to 12 feet before collapsing.

Lakshmi attempted to revive Sashikala by sprinkling water on her face. Assuming that she was suffering from a bout of fits, Lakshmi had even thrust a metal piece into her palm. When she realized that Sashikala was dead, the Lashkar police were informed.

Srinivas who works at a graveyard in Mysore, testified to burying the body, Venkappa Gowda from Mithur, a mason, informed the court on having assisted police in acting as a witness during the seizure of gold ornaments pledged with Sona Bankers in Mangalore.

During cross examination by Mohan Kumar, he denied issuing any false statements and insisted that the accused Mohan Kumar was also present when the seizure was made.

Modi flag bearer of Indian culture, tradition: Amit Shah in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 18: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the "flag-bearer" of the Indian culture and tradition.

In his speech at an event organised by Vedanta Bharati here, Shah said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is touring across the globe as the flag bearer of the Indian culture and tradition." To buttress his point, the BJP National President said Modi took a holy dip in Ganga and attended Ganga Arati in Varanasi before taking oath as the Prime Minister.

It was for the first time that Modi sent red sander to Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal to perform special prayers on behalf of the government of India.

Shah also slammed the previous governments for their wrong interpretation of secularism, preventing them from honouring the best things of the country. "But after a long interval we have a Prime Minister who sends across the message that we have a lot to give to the world," Shah said.

Coronavirus scare: Karnataka takes initials steps, allots isolation wards

Bangalore, Feb 1: Following the Directions from department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Karnataka, to set up Isolation ward for the admission and treatment of the Novel Coronavirus infected patients, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore has allocated 5 isolation beds, 4 at its Bannergatta unit and 1 at Cunningham Road Unit.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, Dr A Nagasubramaniam, Medical Director, Fortis BG unit said, “We are following the guidelines and protocols as suggested by Department of Health and family welfare and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases in line with WHO guidelines for managing any suspected case. We will accordingly notify the health authorities.”

The management has been educating the hospital staff members, visitors and patients about the virus and the precautionary measures on a timely basis. A health advisory on Coronavirus has also been put up at the lobby and the canteen to educate the patient attenders, nurses and staff members, the statement added.

Karnataka govt to build guest house for Kannadiga pilgrims in Ayodhya

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Anticipating a huge number of pilgrims from Karnataka to start visiting Ayodhya following the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Ram temple, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday requested his Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for two acres of land to build a 'yatri nivas' (guest house).

"A large number of pilgrims from Karnataka would be visiting Ayodhya. The government of Karnataka wishes to construct a yatri nivas for the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya," Yediyurappa wrote to Yogi.

"I request you to grant two acres of land in Ayodhya for this purpose," he said.

The Chief Minister said the yatri nivas will be constructed for the benefit of pilgrims from the southern state.

He also congratulated the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for successfully laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple on Wednesday.
