Mangalore, April 12: Vittala Malekudiya, the MCJ student of Mangalore University who was arrested by Anti-Naxal Forces on charges of alleged naxal links has not been taken into custody without evidences indicating his involvement in naxal activities said A R Infant, Director General of Police (DGP), Karnataka.

Speaking to mediapersons at a press meet at the Police Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Thursday, Mr. Infant said that police does not intend to arrest anyone without a reason. “What I know from the information that I have received so far is that there are evidences against him pointing towards his involvement in naxal activities. The police have taken the step after watching his movements. He is found to have given logistic support to the naxals and attended their meetings. From his mobile phone call details it has been found that he was in touch with naxalites. But I have sympathies for him since he is a student and will look into the matter and verify the claims against him”, Mr. Infant said.

Of his visit to the ANF camps at Karkala and Sringeri, the DGP said that the morale of the personnel deployed in the regions is high and are doing a good job in the midst hostile terrains. “Our job is to provide security to the people of these naxal affected areas and our sheer presence has instilled confidence in them”, he said.

Stating that the police department intends to bring misguided youth back to the mainstream, Mr. Infant said that the police has kept its surrender policy open. “Some have already surrendered and some are in the process of surrendering themselves. We want to rehabilitate them and bring them to the mainstream. They should be able to stand on their feet. We are open to making changes in the policy too in case there is room for improvement. But those naxals who indulge in crime will be dealt with under the law and as far as they are concerned, there will be no let-up”, Mr. Infant said.

Responding to one of the queries from mediapersons about the investigation of the cache of arms that were recovered from a naxal affected area in Belthangady recently, Mr. Infant said that probe is in progress and an attempt to trace the origin of the granades is being made.

When asked about the Panjinamogaru double murder case, the DGP said that CID is investigating the matter.

He refused to comment on the Shankar Bidari episode involving the government stating that the matter is subjudice.

Mangaluru airport bomb planter Aditya Rao surrenders; calls it act of revenge

Bengaluru, Jan 22: The suspected man in planting of a live bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport surrendered before the DG and IG of Karnataka Police, Neelamani Raju, here on Wednesday, police sources said.

The accused was identified as Aditya Rao, a resident of Udupi.

The accused was taken for questioning by the Halasurugate Police, where he was being interrogated intensively, the sources further said.

According to them, he confessed that he planted an explosive device at Mangaluru Airport on Monday said that it was an act of revenge for denying him an employment by the Kempegowda International Airport Limited (KIAL).

He was arrested by the Bengaluru police in the past for making a hoax call to the police stating that a bomb had been planted at the Bengaluru Airport.

Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai told the media that 'the Bengaluru police have taken the custody of Aditya Rao, who is being subjected for a thorough interrogation'.

The Mangaluru police was also likely to join the Bengaluru police into the investigation, the sources added.

This would have been a false flag operation, if he was not caught, they would have been an explosions and Dr.police would have put muslim youths behind bars...or that was the intention/plan but due to unforseen reasons failed......i hope someone comes out with the truth..

if he were to be a muslim, he would have benn branded terrorist. revenge and all these expalnations are just excuses. investigate from where an dhow he got bombs.

Bomb has weaken once bomber name appears. Now time for fact finding, family emotions, personal attachments etc. If he was Muslim it would have connected to ISIS, Anti-CAA, Pakistan, Kerala..

Expat from Dakshina Kannada dies of covid-19 in Kuwait

Mangaluru, May 19: An Indian expatriate worker hailing from Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district, who was undergoing treatment for covid-19, passed away in Kuwait.

He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. His family resides at Kashimath, Vittal in Bantwal taluk.

According to sources, he was unwell for past one month and had been diagnosed with covid-19 infection.

The last rites were conducted in Kuwait. Under the guidance of the priests of the local church, prayer and other last rituals were performed at his home in Bantwal.

He had visited this hometown last year for the wedding of his daughter, sources said.

Govt initiated measures to implement Sarojini Mahishi report, claims BSY as Karnataka bandh begins

Bengaluru, Feb 13: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday said the government had initiated measures to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report as the 12-hour Karnataka bandh call by several pro-Kannada organisations under the banner of Karnataka Sanghatanegala Okkoota began on Thursday.

“Government always stood for Kannada and Kannadigas and initiated measures to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report,” Yediyurappa said. Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, Ola, Uber and auto services were affected even though buses were plying as usual. Security has also been beefed up in Bengaluru after stones were pelted at a Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet, though no one was injured.

Bangalore University has postponed all postgraduate (PG) exams scheduled for today. A pro-Kannada activist, Praveen Shetty, was kept under house arrest and police have detained a few people, including those involved in Cauvery protests and other bandh cases.

The organisations are demanding the implementation of a report by former union minister Sarojini Mahishi that recommends a certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in public sector undertakings, private companies, and multinational companies. The report was submitted in 1984 but is yet to be implemented.
