Mangalore University to start own yakshagana troupe

yakshaganaMangalore, April 13: Mangalore University will have its own yakshagana mela (troupe) if everything goes as per the plan.

Vice-chancellor T C Shivashankara Murthy on Thursday said that school and college students in the region, who are interested in yakshagana, would be trained at the Dr P Dayananda Pai and Sri P Sathish Pai Yakshagana Study Centre of the university.

Delivering the presidential address at the inauguration of new collection of statues, ornaments, musical instruments and other items used in Badaguthittu yakshagana at Yakshamangala Museum of the university at Mangalagangotri near here, the V-C said, "The yakshagana study centre of the university is a suitable place to train students in yakshagana.

The centre will also give an opportunity for students to perform yakshagana and other activities related to the folk art."

The training programme will commence soon.The Yakshamangala Award 2012, which carries Rs 25,000 and citation, was bestowed on veteran yakshagana artiste K Govind Bhat on the occasion. Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy president M L Samaga, who honoured the artiste, said that yakshagana was the only art in the world, which combines culture and heritage.

"The university should take initiatives to promote the art though the yakshagana study centre. Several initiatives need to be taken to popularize the art," he added.

Century Builders proprietor P Dayananda Pai announced that Rs 2.5 lakh would be donated to set up an endowment for Yakshamangala Award.

He also handed over a cheque of Rs 10,000 for the treatment of yakshagana artiste Puthur Sridhar Bhandary.

Artist Jeevanram Sullia, who designed Yakshamangala Museum and creator of Badaguthittu yakshagana models Shivakumar Ujire were felicitated on the occasion.

The museum, which was inaugurated a year ago added seven yakshagana statues and other items related to Badaguthittu yakshagana created by Shivakumar to its collection.

Bangalore, Feb 1: Following the Directions from department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Karnataka, to set up Isolation ward for the admission and treatment of the Novel Coronavirus infected patients, Fortis Hospital, Bangalore has allocated 5 isolation beds, 4 at its Bannergatta unit and 1 at Cunningham Road Unit.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, Dr A Nagasubramaniam, Medical Director, Fortis BG unit said, “We are following the guidelines and protocols as suggested by Department of Health and family welfare and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases in line with WHO guidelines for managing any suspected case. We will accordingly notify the health authorities.”

The management has been educating the hospital staff members, visitors and patients about the virus and the precautionary measures on a timely basis. A health advisory on Coronavirus has also been put up at the lobby and the canteen to educate the patient attenders, nurses and staff members, the statement added.

Bengaluru, Jul 7: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday held a meeting with a team of officials from the Union Health Ministry in Bengaluru in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

The team of Union Health Ministry officials praised the state's COVID-19 management measures.

Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health, EMR director Ravindran met the Chief Minister during a two-day visit to the state. The team praised the State Government's efforts to gather information and identify co-morbid figures for the control of COVID-19.

During the meeting, it was discussed that in the following days, priority should be given to prevent death from COVID-19 and to provide adequate treatment for symptomatic infections.

In addition, Central team officials suggested that the COVID-19 guidelines should be followed in containment zones.

Officials informed about the steps being taken to treat COVID infected people in the state and stated that the High Flow Oxygen System is being implemented in all district hospitals and taluk hospitals in the state.  The process will be completed by August 15.

Health Minister B. Sriramulu, Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, Chief Secretary to Government Vijayabhaskar and other senior officials were present during the meeting.

Mangaluru, May 23: Two more persons tested positive for covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada today taking the district's tally to 65.

One among them is a 30-year-old man who had returned from Maharashtra and was under quarantine. He underwent test at a private lab and was tested positive.

The other one is a 41-year-old woman who is a resident of Shirlalu in Beltangady and had symptoms of influenza-like illness. 

She was urged by residents in the surroundings of her house to go for a test. She was shifted to Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning on Saturday.
