AP Aboobakar demands justice for Ma'adani

Kasargod, April 13: AP Aboobakar, the general secretary of All India Sunni Ulema Federation, has urged the governments and police departments of the states of Karnataka and Kerala not to lose humanity while dealing with Abdul Nasser Ma'adani.

Speaking at a programme here on Thursday as part of his 'Kerala Yathra', a statewide tour of being held under the theme, 'awareness of humanity', Mr Aboobakar said Ma'adani needs justice.

The 46-year-old Ma'adani, president of People's Democratic Party (PDP) was arrested by Karnataka police in connection with Bangalore serial blast.

Mr Aboobakar said that police have committed human rights violation against Ma'adani repeatedly under the pretext of investigation. “I have already written to Karnataka chief minister urging him to ensure justice for Ma'adani”, he added.

“This is an issue of humanity. In such cases, it is our responsibility to fight for justice keeping aside all our internal differences.

Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulema president Abdul Rahman Thangal handed over the flag of 'Samastha' to Mr Aboobakar.

The statewide Yathra, which kicked off in Kasargod would pass through 14 districts and culminate in Thiruvanathapuram on April 28.

Home Minister directs police to tighten Eshwarappa’s security after threat calls

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security.

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.

Several MLAs at Bengaluru resort were emotionally pressurised to leave Cong: Patwari

Bengaluru, Mar 13: Several ministers staying at the Bengaluru resort had been emotionally pressurised to leave the Congress party, said Congress leader Jitu Patwari on Thursday after he was rescued by party leader DK Shivakumar from getting arrested due to the scuffle that had broken out at Embassy Boulevard here.

"We had received information that one of the MLAs, Manoj Chaudhary, staying at the Boulevard wanted his father to bring him back home," Patwari told reporters.

He said, "We had accompanied Manoj's father to the resort but the moment we entered the restaurant at the resort, some miscreants took away Manoj to some other unknown place," Patwari told reporters.

"Meanwhile, we (Lakhan Singh and Jitu Patwari) were manhandled and taken to the police station," he added.

Patwari said that the police had started the process of arresting them but Shivakumar came to their rescue and stopped their arrest.

He further said, "The police manhandled us even though we tried to talk to them in a very calm manner."

"If the MLAs giving resignation was their decision then why is the BJP not allowing them to contact their families," the MP said.

He further said that Jyotiraditya Scindia would soon become a minister but "why are the other ministers being made scapegoats."

Earlier in the day, a Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh had said that if action on the assaulters of its two leaders is not taken then the matter will be taken to the court.

Yellow alert in 8 Karnataka districts including DK, Udupi, UK

Mangaluru, May 31: A yellow alert has been sounded in eight districts of Karnataka, amidst the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) prediction that the low pressure area formed over Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep may to intensify further into a cyclonic storm.

The yellow has been sounded in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Shivamogga and Chamarajanagara till June 1.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected to lash parts of coastal Karnataka today and tomorrow.

The IMD has assessed that the situation is favourable for the onset of southwest monsoon. In view of the enhanced cloud cover and the deepening of southwesterly winds up to mid tropospheric levels, the southwest monsoon advanced further.

The IMD has also advised fishermen to avoid fishing in west coast of India from May 31 to June 4.
