VHP demands immediate closure of Kudroli slaughterhouse

Mangalore, April 16: Vishwa Hindu Parishat has stepped up its demand for the closure of the slaughter house in Kudroli insisting that the it is functioning in violation of law.

In a press release issued on Monday, the VHP said the slaughterhouse in Kudroli had not been built in conformity with the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty Act 1960 and therefore it is an illegal slaughterhouse.

The slaughtering of the animal at the said abattoir is being carried out in a cruel manner and thus the guidelines under the said Act is being violated, the press release said.

The right-wing organization also accused the Mangalore City Corporation of failing to develop the abattoir as per the guidelines issued by the central government. The abattoir does not have a testing facility to find out if the meat is worthy of human consumption, which is a requirement according to the guidelines, the VHP said.

Since hundreds of animals have died near Byndoor after consuming poisonous effluents, it is highly dangerous to consume the meat which is not tested properly, the VHP said in its memorandum addressed to the commissioner of the City Corporation.

The VHP also claimed that cows and calves are being slaughtered at the abattoir in violation of the law. This is a punishable offence under Section 4 of the Karnataka anti-cow slaughter and cattle proection Act 1964, it said.

It also pointed out that the slaughtering of cows and calves is a an affront to the feelings of the Hindus and is a source of provocation.

It urged the commissioner to close down the abattoir without any delay. Prof. M.B. Puranik, vice-president, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Karnataka Dakshina Prantha, Manohar Tulujaram, president, VHIP, Mangalore, Pradeep Pumpwell, Goraksha Pramukh, Bajrang Dal, Mangalore and Harish Amtadi, convenor, Bajrang Dal are the signatories to the memorandum. The copies of the memorandum have been circulated to the chairman of the Standing Committee on public health education and social justice, Mayor of the MCC and the deputy mayor of the MCC.

Bengaluru, Jul 19: A viral video claiming to show crowded condition of a hospital treating COVID-19 patients in the city was found to be false with police on Sunday arresting a person for allegedly circulating it on social media.

Police said such videos have the potential to create panic and asked people to refrain from spreading them.

The arrest was made within hours of the police announcing registration of a case in connection with the video that showed a crowd of people wearing masks at an "outpatient ward" of a hospital, falsely identified as Victoria Hospital, a major dedicated COVID facility here.

The video went viral on social media.

"City Crime Branch swiftly identified and arrested this person who has been circulating false videos of panic in Victoria Hospital, Bangalore. Kudos to all doctors and medical professionals who are doing their best. False news busted," Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao tweeted.

Police said such videos have the potential to create panic in society and asked people to refrain from it.

"Covid False video about conditions of hospitals in Bangalore circulated on social media. Case registered in Cybercrime PS. While government, society at large fighting the pandemic, some are creating/forwarding messages/videos which has potential to create panic in society. Refrain from it," Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Sandeep Patil tweeted.

The video showed scores of people wearing masks gathered in a small space allegedly at an Out-Patient Department in a hospital, and a person filming it, claiming to be a doctor expressing concern that it was a threat to all medical staff, including the patients.

Official sources said the video was reportedly from a hospital in one of the northern states and not from Victoria Hospital.

Bhopal, Mar 10: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday parried questions on the exact number of MLAs supporting the party in Madhya Pradesh amid a political crisis triggered by the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia and 14 MLAs loyal to him.

Repeating his allegation that the BJP was trying to destabilise the Congress-led government, Singh told reporters that the BJP had arranged three chartered planes for Bengaluru on Monday to fly out some MLAs loyal to Scindia.

"We want to know why Bengaluru is used every time to destabilise governments?" he questioned.

When asked about the number of MLAs supporting the Congress in the current political scenario, Singh only said, "Just wait".

He said an atmosphere of uneasiness has been prevailing in the BJP since the Kamal Nath government started cracking a whip on various mafias.

"We (the state government) are exposing Vyapam scam, e-tendering scam, Madhyam scam. In the honey-trap case, BJP men were found to be involved. This will be exposed," he said.

The political crisis in Madhya Pradesh precipitated with the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia over his apparent marginalisation in the state politics. Following Scindia's suit, 14 legislators loyal to him have sent their resignation letters via e-mail to Madhya Pradesh Raj Bhavan.

Scindia was subsequently expelled from the Congress by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Speculation that the Guna royal might join the BJP gained ground after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this morning.

Mysuru, Jan 11: City Police has intensified its search for a girl student who a displayed 'Free Kashmir' poster during a protest two days back.

According to police, a girl student displayed the poster carrying an anti-national message, during the protest organised by University of Mysore Researchers Association and other organisation on Wednesday to oppose the attack on the students and the teachers in Jawaharlal Nehru University in the National Capital. An officer said that as per the documents available, it appears that a girl student displayed the placard for a few minutes.

"We are looking for the accused". The Jayalakshmipuram police have taken up suo motu cognisance of the case. Meanwhile. the office of Governor Vajubhai Vala, on Thursday, sought a detailed report from the University of Mysore (UoM) over the incident. The city police have booked the protestors under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
