State level cricket tourney in city from April 20

Mangalore, April 17: Yemmekere Friends Circle (YFC) will organise 'Late B Narayana Karkera memorial YFC state-level under arm day and night cricket tournament' at Yemmekere ground near Bolar here from April 20 to 22.

Annoucing this at a press Y Abdul Salam, Working president of YFC said that around 30 teams were expected to take part in this eight-over tourney.

He said winners in the tourney would be awarded with Rs 1,00,112 in cash and trophy. The second prize winners will get Rs 55,555 cash and YFC trophy. Best batsman, bowler and best innings, best match and best team would also be recognised.

He said the tournament is being organised for a social cause. In the valedictory ceremony physically challenge people would be donated wheel chairs. sewing machines would be distributed among needy and free ambulance service will also be launched. On April 23 at 7pm, there will be a variety music programme.

Naresh Kumar- President, YFC and Ashok Kumar, son of Narayan Karkera were also present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, Jul 22: As many as 184 people from Karnataka stranded in UAE arrived at Mangalore International Airport.

According to sources, the chartered flight, which landed on Tuesday night, was arranged by the UAE Karnataka Cultural Foundation and Beary Cultural Foundation for Kannadigas who had been stranded following the lockdown and also those who had lost their employment.

A team of officials with Puttur Assistant Commissioner Yathish Ullal and Horticulture Department Assistant Director Praveen who were in charge of quarantine facilities for international passengers verified the documents and sent them for institutional quarantine.

Of the 184 passengers, 141 had remained quarantined in Mangaluru while 42 left for Udupi and one to Honnavara in Uttara Kannada, said sources.

Bengaluru, Jul 1: Faced with increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the State Capital, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice A S Okha has decided the Court to function online.

Registrar General Rajendra Badamikar, in the notice issued here on Wednesday, based on order of the Chief Justice, stated that the emergency cases will be conducted through video conference until the next order.

The order also specifies that only the principal seat (Bengaluru) will be conducting proceedings online. High Court benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi will continue to function as usual.

Mangaluru, May 30: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today recorded third covid-19 death as a 67-year-old woman from Bantwal taluk succumbed to the coronavirus at the district Wenlock Hospital, the designated Covid hospital.

The victim is said to be a neighbor of two women (daughter-in-law and mother-in-law) who died of the coronavirus a few days ago. 

On April 18 due to difficulties in breathing, she was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, where she was tested positive for coronavirus. Initially she responded to treatment. However, her condition started worsening earlier this week and breathed her last today evening.

Her daughter also has been tested positive for the deadly virus and she is currently undergoing treatment.
