Cochin girl ditched in Dubai by Kundapur man fights for justice

sameeraUdupi, April 19: A Kerla based girl, who had been working as a waitress in a Dubai-based hotel has accused a Kundapur based cashier of the same hotel of ditching her after having an affair.

Sameera Saidu (23) of Kappalandimukku, Cochin, Kerala told media persons here on Wednesday that she has lodged a complaint with Kundapura police.

She stated that during her duty at Rami Guest Line, Rigga Road in Dubai, Adeep Kumar Chikkayya Shetty, a cashier in the same hotel, befriended her in 2011.

She accused Adeep of taking money to the tune of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of marrying her. Sameera alleged that Adeep brought three of his friends Harish Shetty, Ishwar and Rajesh Shetty working in the same hotel, and made advances to her. As she did not oblige, he beat her up and abused her in front of his friends, she said.

Adeep also fled to India after taking money and gold from her bag, she said.

Udupi SP Boralingaiah said that police have relieved the complaint and an FIR would be lodged. Investigation would be taken up following a letter from the Indian Embassy in Dubai.

Kalaburagi, Mar 16: A family member of the 76-year-old man from Kalaburgai who died of COVID-19 on March 10 has been tested positive for the virus.

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner B Sharat said, "One member of the family of the 76-year-old man from Kalaburgai, who died due to coronavirus has tested positive for the virus."

The disease which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year has so far spread to more than 100 countries, infecting over 1,30,000 people.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday arrived at the Yelahanka air base by a special plane on a two-day visit to Karnataka to attend events in Tumakuru and Bengaluru.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda and Pralhad Joshi and state Revenue Minister R Ashoka were present to welcome Modi.

Yediyurappa greeted the Prime Minister by garlanding him and offering a shawl and adorned him with a Mysuru Peta (turban).

Later, Modi flew to Tumakuru to attend events at the Siddaganga Math apart from addressing a gathering and to present the Krishi Karman Award.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will visit the DRDO facility to dedicate five DRDO Young Scientists Laboratories to the nation.

He will stay at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

On Friday, Modi will inaugurate the 107th Indian Science Congress at the University of Agriculture Science in Bengaluru.

Udupi, June 21: An entrepreneur lost his life after the car he was driving veered off the road and plunged into a roadside tank near Barkuru in Brahmavar taluk of Udupi district today.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Shetty, a resident of Vakwadi in Kundapur taluk. He is the proprietor of Laxmi Glass and Plywood, Koteshwara. 

A woman, identified as Shweta, who was also on board the car suffered critical injuries.  

The mishap occurred when the duo was heading to Vakwadi from Brahmavar in Hyundai Car sedan car. 

Shetty lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve at Chaulikere and the car plunged off the road as there was no barricade. 

Even though local residents began rescue operation immediately, Shetty breathed his last on the spot. Shweta was rescued and shifted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment.
