Mangalore: Man murdered in broad daylight

Mangalore, April 23: A youth was brutally murdered by a gang of six persons in broad daylight on Bibi Alabi Road near Bajilakeri on Monday.


The victim has been identified as Guruprasad (30) of Bajalikeri. Sources from Mangalore North Police station said the incident occurred at Bajalikeri at around 2 pm when a gang of six people assaulted Guruprasad with lethal weapons.


Though he tried to escape by hiding in a juice centre nearby, the gang chased him and killed him. The owner of the juice centre is said to have witnessed the crime.


Soon after the incident a huge mob gathered at the spot. Police also rushed to the spot and made arrangements to shift the body. The incident which occurred in a borad daylight has shocked public.


It is said that the victim Guruprasad was also history- sheeter and was involved in the murder of Manju alias Kadle Manju in 2009. Two attempts to murder him had also been made before.


A case has been registered at Mangalore North police station in this regard.

Bengaluru, Feb 26: The Karnataka Pre-University Board issued a five-page booklet on Coronavirus ahead of the forthcoming examination to spread awareness among the students, the Board said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Board said that the booklet contains details on symptoms of the disease, measures to be taken in case of an outbreak and other information. The Board has directed the Directors in all districts to disseminate the information to students through college principals.

The PUC examination begins from March 4 and continues till March 23.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: The Janata Dal (Secular) will contest all the 243 assembly seats in Bihar, the elections for which are due in October-November this year, its state unit chief Haldhar Kant Mishra announced on Tuesday.

Mishra said party supremo Deve Gowda has asked him to expand JD(S)'s base and also to prepare itself for contesting all the constituencies in view of the zeal and enthusiasm shown by party workers and office-bearers.

Deve Gowda announced the decision during a virtual meeting with presidents of party's various cells and office- bearers, he said.

He assured that the party will provide all kinds of support for its expansion and selection of candidates for the Bihar polls, Mishra said.

The former prime minister told the party functionaries that several leaders from Bihar are in touch with him and they will join the JD(S) to play their part in the elections, he added.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Palakkad Division of Southern Railway that has jurisdiction over Mangaluru Railway region has established a business development unit (BDU) to cater to the transportation of various sectors, including non-bulk goods traffic, namely, white goods, finished products, manufactured products, agricultural produce and raw material.

In a statement issued here on Sunday said that the BDU’s mandate was to facilitate seamless interaction between the Railways on the one hand and industry, trade representatives and rail freight customers on the other at appropriate zonal or divisional levels. The unit was also expected to help expeditious clearance of their proposals for freight movement.

Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami established the BDU in line with the similar unit at the zonal level with other divisions of SR too setting up similar units. Palakkad BDU would work under the supervision of Additional DRM-II CT Sakkeer Hussain while Senior Divisional Operations Manager PL Ashok Kumar was its convener with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jerin G Anand, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer KV Sundaresan and Senior Divisional Finance Manager AP Sivachandrar were its members.
