DK ZP conferred another national award

Mangalore, April 25: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has added yet another feather in its cap. The ZP, which recently won the Nirmal Gram Puraskar, now has been conferred with Rs 25 lakh award under the Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS).

ZP President K T Shailaja Bhat on Tuesday formally received the award from Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in New Delhi. The award was instituted by the Department of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development of the Union Government.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shetter, Union Cabinet Minister for Tribal Affairs & Panchayati Raj V Kishore Chandra Deo were also present at the award function.

Reacting to the media Ms Bhat said that she was happy to join the club of 13 ZPs that received this prestigious national level award so far. She is the sixth women ZP president to receive this award.

ZP chief executive office Dr K N Vijayaprakash said that the evaluation was done on six parameters and in every aspect the ZP's performance had been found highly creditable.

The parameters were conduct of meetings, regularity of meetings, standards maintained in audit accounts and administration of the ZP, district development planning and participation of members in the planning process, implementation of schemes, attainment of physical and financial targets and transparency in administration, he said.

Ms Bhat said that one of the sub-parameters was the programmes carried out by the ZP in empowering women.

Earlier this year, the ZP won a prize for achieving 100% Nirmala Grama Yojana (rural total sanitary programme).

Kochi, Jul 15: Alisha P Shaji, a commerce student from Kerala's Kochi scored 499 out of 500 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 12 results declared on Monday, wants to pursue a career in economics.

While talking to news agency on Tuesday, she said that she never joined coaching classes.

"I was surprised after knowing the unexpected result. I never expected this, I expected close to 98 per cent. I had five subjects to write but I could attempt only three as two were postponed. I am sad that I could not attempt them, but I am happy that I scored 100 in those subjects. In future, I want to pursue a degree in economics," she said.

"My friends, family and teachers are very supportive and I am thankful to them. I never went to tuitions. I used to study four to five hours a day," she added.

Alisha further said that she wants to give the message that it is okay to start late, but continuity is key to achieve good results.
CBSE on Monday had declared the results for Class 12 examinations 2020.

As per CBSE, with 88.78 per cent pass percentage this year for Class 12, the pass percentage has increased by 5.38 per cent. Last year, the pass percentage was 83.40 per cent.

Mangaluru, Mar 21: The management of Ibrahim Khaleel mosque here on Saturday has decided to temporarily suspend all the prayers inside the mosque premises as a precautionary measure in view of Corona Virus which is spreading like wildfire in the State.

In an official note, the management urged people to remain safe and to pray at home adding that Jumuah, daily prayers and all the other events at the mosques were cancelled temporarily until further notice.

“This is an unavoidable move to save the lives from the infections of deadly Coronavirus” the note added on Saturday.

Mysuru, Jan 11: City Police has intensified its search for a girl student who a displayed 'Free Kashmir' poster during a protest two days back.

According to police, a girl student displayed the poster carrying an anti-national message, during the protest organised by University of Mysore Researchers Association and other organisation on Wednesday to oppose the attack on the students and the teachers in Jawaharlal Nehru University in the National Capital. An officer said that as per the documents available, it appears that a girl student displayed the placard for a few minutes.

"We are looking for the accused". The Jayalakshmipuram police have taken up suo motu cognisance of the case. Meanwhile. the office of Governor Vajubhai Vala, on Thursday, sought a detailed report from the University of Mysore (UoM) over the incident. The city police have booked the protestors under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
