Udupi youth drowns in Dubai

Mangalore, April 30: An expatriate worker from Udupi district has lost his life after drowing in rough waters while swimming in the sea off a beach in Dubai.

The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Shettigar (22), son of late Mohandas Shettigar from Kattegudde near Katapady in Udupi.

It is learnt that Ganesh accidentally drowned off the Mamzar beach in Dubai on Friday evening, when he was enjoying a bath with his friends.

Ganesh, who had been working for a private firm called Gulf Computers in Dubai for nearly two years, had visited his home two months ago.

He was the eldest son of his parents. He is survived by his mother and five younger sisters.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Three advocates were appointed additional judges of the Karnataka High Court.

A Law Ministry notification, issued here on Friday said Maralur Indrakumar Arun, Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh and Ravi Venkappa Hosmani have been appointed as additional judges of the high court on Thursday. The newly appointed Judges will continue in their post for a period of two years from the date they assume charge.

While the names of advocates Arun and Indiresh were recommended by the Collegium on March 25 last year the name of Advocate Hosmani was recommended by the Collegium on October 4.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Congress leader NA Haris on Tuesday said that keeping Jammu and Kashmir leaders under house arrest is not democratic.

Speaking to media persons he said, "It is not done. Keeping the leaders under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir is not democratic."

Haris said that nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happing.

"About Kashmir, it is better to say less as nobody is talking about it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not talking about it and nothing is happening. It does not look good," he told media.

"I think leaders should be brought to the table and discussion on issues should take place. Do whatever has to be done for the country," he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir Administration had on February 5 invoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) against former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah. The duo was detained after the Central government abrogated Article 370 last year.
