Have tried to find answers to society's problems in novel: Bolwar

Mangalore, May 7: Human beings are not perfect. No one can become entirely good. But lesser the number of bad people, the better it is for the society, said Bolwar Muhammad Kunhi, veteran Kannada writer.

He was speaking at an interaction programme organized by Tulunadu Publications pertaining to his novel 'Swaatantrada Ota' in Mangalore.

Mr. Kunhi was asked a number of questions by readers and fans on the occasion. Responding to one of those, Mr. Kunhi said that he has not been a hater of religion as such. “I have tried to find answers to the minute problems of the society in my novel”, he said.

The veteran Kannada writer expressed immense satisfaction at accepting honour from educationist Harekala Hajabba. “It would not be wrong to say that Harekala Hajabba is a tiger of our community. I feel extremely happy that I have got the opportunity to be honoured by him”, he said.

Responding to an observation from one of the members in the gathering about Mr. Kunhi using a mild tone and language in this work unlike his earlier works which would be more aggressive in nature, Mr. Kunhi said “Yes I would to be a bit aggressive in my early days. But now I have seen that there has been a certain degree of improvement in the society. Therefore, I too have mellowed down my approach a bit”.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: A bandh-like situation prevailed in many parts of Dakshina Kannada on Wednesday as thousands of people closed their shops and business establishments to support the ant-NRC protest at Adyar Kannur in Mangaluru.

The protest is jointly being organised by the various Muslim organisations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district under the leadership of Muslim Central Committee against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) besides the “categorical mistreatment” of Muslim community at the hands of the police across the country including in Mangaluru.

In Mangaluru city, even though people woke up to a normal Wednesday, by afternoon most of the Muslim-owned shops were closed.

Muslim dominant areas of the district such have observed half-day bandh. In regions like Ullal, Thokkottu, Bantwal, BC Road, Kalladka too a majorty of the Muslim business establishments remained shut afternoon.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The Karnataka government has intensified screening all international passengers at airports by classifying them into three risk categories.

Passengers, who are symptomatic on arrival fall under risk category 1, those aged above 60 and have Symptoms fall under category 2. Those who fall in both these categories are being quarantined at designated facilities for 14 days from arrival.

Asymptomatic passengers arriving from any of the COVID-19 affected countries will fall under category 3 and will be advised to be under strict home quarantine for 14 days, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said here on Sunday.

Kasaragod, Apr 3: Kerala reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Friday, with seven from the worst affected Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the coastal district alone mounted to 136.

Besides, Kasaragod, one case each was detected from Thrissur and Idukki, he told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting this evening.

Currently, 251 people are under treatment for the virus in the state and 14 were cured today, Vijayan said.

A total of 1.69 lakh people are under surveillence in the state and 706 are in various hospitals.

Two fatalities have been reported from the state so far.
