Have tried to find answers to society's problems in novel: Bolwar

Mangalore, May 7: Human beings are not perfect. No one can become entirely good. But lesser the number of bad people, the better it is for the society, said Bolwar Muhammad Kunhi, veteran Kannada writer.

He was speaking at an interaction programme organized by Tulunadu Publications pertaining to his novel 'Swaatantrada Ota' in Mangalore.

Mr. Kunhi was asked a number of questions by readers and fans on the occasion. Responding to one of those, Mr. Kunhi said that he has not been a hater of religion as such. “I have tried to find answers to the minute problems of the society in my novel”, he said.

The veteran Kannada writer expressed immense satisfaction at accepting honour from educationist Harekala Hajabba. “It would not be wrong to say that Harekala Hajabba is a tiger of our community. I feel extremely happy that I have got the opportunity to be honoured by him”, he said.

Responding to an observation from one of the members in the gathering about Mr. Kunhi using a mild tone and language in this work unlike his earlier works which would be more aggressive in nature, Mr. Kunhi said “Yes I would to be a bit aggressive in my early days. But now I have seen that there has been a certain degree of improvement in the society. Therefore, I too have mellowed down my approach a bit”.

Bengaluru, May 26: The Karnataka government has decided cancel summer vacation for undergraduate and post-graduate students and universities during the 2020-21 academic year in the wake of severe academic loss due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Keeping in mind the loss of academic days due to the lockdown to contain the pandemic, the Higher Education Department has decided to go in for ‘Zero Vacation’. 

The state government decided to cancel all holidays particularly the summer holidays after holding a series of meetings with the Vice Chancellors and other academicians from various parts of the state.

The decision was also communicated during the review meeting of the Higher Education Department held by CM Yediyurappa on Tuesday in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, Jul 30: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) on Wednesday issued a notice restricting the sacrifice of animals during Bakrid or other religious occasions in certain places.

This year Eid al-Adha or Bakra eid will be celebrated on August 1.

"The administration has prohibited the sacrifice of animals in public roads, footpaths, inside or outside the premises of hospitals/nursing homes, schools and colleges, temples mosques, other religious places or public places," the BBMP said in a public notice.

Person or organisation violating the notice is liable to be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, stated BBMP.

Bengaluru, May 24: In an effort to protect passengers and staff from the risk of COVID-19 transmission, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has introduced a parking-to-boarding contactless journey at the airport.

With a greater emphasis on minimum touch and minimum exposure between passengers and airport personnel, BIAL aims to minimise all physical contact at the airport. The technology will continue to enable a seamless airport journey, with greater emphasis on health and safety.

"As the gateway to a new India, BLR Airport has a key role to play in helping passengers through this global health crisis by reassuring them that their safety is our top priority. We have introduced innovative contactless procedures to minimise exposure at the airport," said Hari Marar, MD and CEO, BIAL.

"These enhancements demonstrate our continued commitment to keep our passengers safe in this environment. We believe our new measures will boost confidence among passengers," continued Marar.

"BLR Airport is all geared up to welcome our passengers back and - working with various government departments - we're committed to offering them a safe experience by implementing the best-in-class standards, procedures and practices," Marar added.

Earlier, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that domestic flight operations will resume from May 25 noting that all airlines and airports were ready but it is not viable to keep the middle seat vacant as it will lead to hike in the ticket price and prescribed social distancing norms would still not be met.
