Have tried to find answers to society's problems in novel: Bolwar

Mangalore, May 7: Human beings are not perfect. No one can become entirely good. But lesser the number of bad people, the better it is for the society, said Bolwar Muhammad Kunhi, veteran Kannada writer.

He was speaking at an interaction programme organized by Tulunadu Publications pertaining to his novel 'Swaatantrada Ota' in Mangalore.

Mr. Kunhi was asked a number of questions by readers and fans on the occasion. Responding to one of those, Mr. Kunhi said that he has not been a hater of religion as such. “I have tried to find answers to the minute problems of the society in my novel”, he said.

The veteran Kannada writer expressed immense satisfaction at accepting honour from educationist Harekala Hajabba. “It would not be wrong to say that Harekala Hajabba is a tiger of our community. I feel extremely happy that I have got the opportunity to be honoured by him”, he said.

Responding to an observation from one of the members in the gathering about Mr. Kunhi using a mild tone and language in this work unlike his earlier works which would be more aggressive in nature, Mr. Kunhi said “Yes I would to be a bit aggressive in my early days. But now I have seen that there has been a certain degree of improvement in the society. Therefore, I too have mellowed down my approach a bit”.

Chmarajanagara, Feb 23: In order to control and keep a tab on the activities within the forest area and after the bitter experiences with frequent forest fires, like the one in Bandipur Tiger Reserve last year Karnataka Forest Department officials have decided to use drones to prevent the occurrences of such wildfires, and to use drones to nab trouble makers and take timely action to put out or prevent forest fires, especially during the summer season.

The department of forest has been working on using drones and setting up a centre in Mysuru or Chamarajanagar to monitor three crucial tiger reserves — Bandipur, Nagarhole, and BRT.

Belgaum, Jan 1: Police detained a group of around eight people who were allegedly trying to hoist 'Uttara Karnataka flag' in Hire Bagewadi area here on Wednesday.

This comes amid tensions between Karnataka and neighbouring Maharashtra over the border issue with protests on both sides, which have also led to the cancellation of bus services between the two states.

Protesters in Belagavi burnt an effigy of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, following which Shiv Sena workers had launched a protest near the Kolhapur bus stand on Sunday, and burnt an effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

The long-standing border dispute between the two states over is pending before the Supreme Court for several years.

On December 7, Thackeray had chaired a high-level meeting over the border dispute between two states. It was decided in the meeting that attempts will be made to get fast track hearing in Supreme Court on the issue.

Mangaluru, Apr 5: As the number of Covid 19 cases continue to spike across Karnataka, there are patients who are recovering from this deadly virus as well. The first case of Covid 19 detected in Mangaluru has fully recovered and all set to return home.

The first case of corona infection was reported on March 22 in Dakshina Kannada district. 

A 22-year-old youth hailing from Bhatkal had landed at Mangaluru International Airport on March 19. 

As he was suffering from mild fever and cold, he was quarantined in Mangaluru. He had come from Dubai.

His throat swabs were sent for testing on the same day and on March 22 he was tested positive for coronavirus. 

He has undergone 14-day long treatment at the Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. 

On April 2 and 3, his throat swabs were sent for testing again. Both times he was tested negative for coronavirus. He is expected to be discharged on April 6.

So far a dozen coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed in Dakshina Kannada. With the recovery of one patient, there are 11 active cases in the district.
