Mangalore, May 9: The Health Department of Mangalore City Corporation, who conducted raid on several shops in and around the City Market area on Wednesday, ordered closure of a shop and seized around 300 kg of substandard plastic bags.
The corporation's environment engineer Madhu S. Manohar said the raid was conducted on shops in central market, State Bank area, and Nellikai Road.
Mr. Manohar said that Meenakshi Plastics that had stored over 100 kg of plastic bags violating the Plastic Management (Amendment) Rules, 2011, was told to shut down.
He said the licence was seized. Some shop owners were fined Rs. 250 to Rs. 500 for keeping bags of thickness less than 40 microns.
