CM to inaugurate Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute on Saturday

Mangalore, May 10: Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute, a newly builty specialty hospital of global standards in the city will be inaugurated by chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday, May 12.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, Dr Yusuf Kumble, Managing Director of hospital, said union minister for corporate affairs M Veerappa Moily would preside over the ceremony.

He said Indian hospital was a corporate hospital promoted as a public limited company owned by shareholders from all walks of life. Located at the Pumpwell circle, the hospital has a capital outlay of 75 crore.

“Over the last few years, medical science has progressed at amazing speed. Transforming changes have been affected in diagnostic and technology. Indiana Hospital is committed to provide this advanced technology to the reach of common man”, he said.

Mr Kumble said, comprehensive infrastructure, cutting edge technology, latest hi-tech medical equipment in all specialisations and committed medical experts would make Indiana the choice of all in the days to come.

He said, the hospital would be offering total and comprehensive health solutions comparable to the best hospitals in the world. The Indiana team is comprised of physicians, surgeons and other healthcare professionals of the highest caliber and experiences, he added.

Dr Ali Kumble, chairman of the hospital said that Indiana offers state-of-art tertiary care in various pediatric specialties. The centre has an outstanding team of consultants covering all major fields in pediatrics to provide comprehensive management of problems of neonates and children, he said.

Abdul Latheef, vice chairman, was also present.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty has sent the second consignment of N95 Masks, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Sanitisers worth about Rs 73 lakhs, City police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha said on Sunday.

"These will be primarily used by Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics of Wenlock Hospital here and masks by the frontline staff of ASHA and police at risk of exposure to the virus,” Dr Harsha tweeted on Sunday.

The district has received the first consignment with critical medical equipment worth Rs 28 lakh from the Infosys foundation on Saturday, March 28.

New Delhi, Feb 13: Two SpiceJet pilots have been suspended today for an improper landing at Mangalore Airport which damaged three runway edge lights. The incident took place on October 31 last year when the private carrier's Boeing 737 aircraft was returning from Dubai.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the licenses of the pilots for four-and-half months from the date of the incident.

DGCA had issued a show cause notice to the Pilot in Command and the First Officer demanding explanation of the "lapses" and found their replies unsatisfactory, the aviation watchdog said in a statement.

Investigation revealed that the touchdown was improper as it deviated to the the left on the runway in turn damaging three runway edge lights.

Mangalore, Jan 15: In one of the biggest seizure of gold in the new decade, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths here have seized five kg of gold valued at Rs two Crore from the Air Cargo Complex at International Airport here recently.

Acting on a tip-off the officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Bangalore and Mangalore in a co-ordinated effort unraveled a unique modus of smuggling of gold through Air Cargo Complex, at old airport, Bajpe Mangalore two days back, According to release issued here on Tuesday evening.

The smuggled gold was concealed in five metal sprockets which were imported by M/s Swaroop Mineral Pvt Ltd of Udupi in the name of “mining conveyor drive chain”.
