Leadership training camp for teenagers concludes

Mangalore, May 11: The weeklong leadership training for the teenagers mainly for high school children was concluded at Spandana Trust, Jeppu, here, on Wednesday.

As many as 332 children irrespective of caste and creed participated in the undergone training in the camp for seven days.

Leadership qualities, leadership in youth and various types of leadership, effect of HIV/Aids in youth, rights of children, consumer rights, right to information and personality development etc. subjects were dealt with in the meeting.

The programme was conducted by Velarod, Mangalore. Mr. Renny D'Souza and his team took keen interest in the program.

Presiding over the valedictory function, Emma Joseph, superior Infant Mary's convent, Jeppu, encouraged the youth and stressed the need of leadership training for youth.

She said, a pencil is made to use unless it is mended and sharpen it won't write. So we too need to sharpen ourselves and make use of ourselves for the good of others and the society. The career guidance that the students got should be useful in the days to come, she added.

She also praised the Spandana Trust and its personnel for organizing this kind of programmes for youth.

Evangeline Managing Trustee Spandana Trust, Renny D'Souza, Director, Velarod and the resource persons May D'Sa, Jayakar, Deeksha and Suresh also were present on the dais.

Evangeline welcomed the gathering. Prafulla D'Souza proposed vote of thanks. Victor Vas compered the programme.

Mangaluru, Jul 4: In the wake of mounting coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada, all jewellery shops district will be closed for five days from July 5 to July 9.

The decision was taken by the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Jewellers’ Association.

All the jewellery shops including corporate jewellery shops in Manglauru and other parts of district will remain closed for five days, a media release said.

Mandya, Jan 25: A woman committed suicide by jumping into Vishveshwaraiah Canal after throwing her two children into the canal near Thibbanahalli in the Taluk, police said on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Jyothi (33), Nisarga (7) and Pavan (4), of Hullenahalli.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday.

Kasaragod, Jul 14: Kerala State Excise department officials confiscated hawala money to the tune of Rs 2.85 crore from a person hailing from Mangaluru.

According to sources, the officials of the Kumbala Range Excise had noticed the huge baggage containing hundreds of bundles of unaccounted currencies when they intercepted a vehicle at the border check-post at Thoominad in Manjeshwar early on Tuesday morning.

The accused Shamsudheen, who was trying to transport the illegal money into Kerala has been arrested and handed over to the Manjeshwar police authorities for further action, sources added.
