Mangalore, May 11: Holding a copy of the leaked departmental inquiry report against Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC) managing director V K Shetty, JD(S) state secretary M G Hegde urged the state government to initiate criminal proceedings against the persons involved in corruption.

He told reporters here on Thursday that the KFDC had reached the highest level of corruption during the tenure of V K Shetty as managing director.

The KEDC had flouted tender rules and produced false documents for the utilization of funds provided by the government, he alleged.

Appreciating the government's move in ordering a departmental inquiry, Hegde said the report of the inquiry committee had proved that the allegations made against the KFDC were true.

On the highlights of the report, Hegde said the inquiry team was able to find only three deep freezers among the five purchased by the KFDC. The team was able to identify only four out of the 10 serve-over counters that had been purchased. The report also mentioned that officials had not produced documents for each purchased using government funds. The installation of ice plants was a blunder as the inquiry team was able to find irregularities, he said giving the example of the 10 ice plant units.

Not a single unit was available at the KFDC or the mentioned places, he added.

Tender rules were violated in the purchase of five power-generators, where the lowest bid was neglected. The KFDC has lost Rs 1 lakh in the purchase of power generators. Favoritism has played a role in each tender process of the KFDC, he alleged. The state government has been supporting corrupt officials, he added.

M G Hegde said that although the departmental inquiry report was a proof of irregularities in the KFDC, there were chances that it would be ignored due to the political lobby.
