Mangalore, May 12: Competition in medical sector will breed efficiency and better services said Dr.M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs.

Speaking after inaugurating Indiana Hospital in the city on Saturday, Dr. Moily said that Mangalore has been a hub for banking, education and health care. With the introduction of Indiana Hospital, another institution had set foot in the city's competitive medical field, Dr. Moily said, adding that greater competition will result in efficiency.

The Union Minister appealed to the Hospital authorities to serve the people from middle and lower middle class with special attention. “The growth of middle class is 20% per annum. It is increasing and it should be the target group for the Hospital. Include those who do not have access to medical care. There is a vast area in health care that needs to be accessed and served”, he said.

Stating that Mangalore possesses a confluence of serving culture, Dr. Moily said that India can excel in health care with a mixture of technology on one hand and compassion on the other.

Assan, Feb 9: Coming down heavily on Amit Shah, JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda said that the Union Home Minister is dreaming of a Hindu nation. Addressing the crowd at an anti-CAA/NRC rally in Hassan, he said that the Home Minister has forgotten that India is a secular, multi-lingual country.

“Shah cannot make India into a Hindu nation. People should come forward and oppose the Acts in the interest of peace and welfare of the nation,” the former PM said, urging secular leaders to unite and fight against the undemocratic policies put forth by the Centre.

“Only secular forces can protect minorities by taking to the streets,” he said. Talking about the controversy around former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde’s statements, Gowda said BJP leaders are airing anti-national comments, which is disturbing peace. “Muslims, Christians and Hindus should unite to fight against the BJP’s unilateral decisions.”

Bengaluru, Jan 30: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who reached the national capital on Thursday, said he will discuss the much-awaited Ministry expansion with the BJP high command.

"It's been long that I visited Delhi. I will meet the party national president J P Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah and take their suggestions on the cabinet expansion," Yediyurappa told reporters.

The chief minister said he will also call on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and discuss about development issues related to Karnataka.

Yediyurappa has been anxiously waiting for the high command's nod to expand his ministry amid intense lobbying by the aspirants.

Opposition parties have been critical of the BJP and Yediyurappa over the delay in cabinet expansion, alleging that he was weak and that the administration had collapsed.

As the chief minister has already made it clear that 11 of the disqualified JDS-Congress MLAs who got re-elected in the bypolls on BJP tickets will be made ministers, lobbying has been on in the party for the remaining ministerial berths.

Currently, there are 18 Ministers, including the chief minister in the cabinet that has a sanctioned strength of 34. Sixteen berths are vacant.
