Mangalore, May 14: The much awaited Sri Bhoothanantheshwara Halli Cricket Tournament -II will take place from May 17 to 20under the auspices of Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar, Mangalore and Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Bhajana Mandali.

The tournament will have rubber ball underarm games of six overs each. Already as many as 50 teams have registered for the event and maximum of 100 team entries will be accepted, says Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Chief Co-ordinator of the event.

The tournament will be played in the playgrounds adjacent to the temple at Badaga Yedapadav and three cricket pitches have been developed for the tournament.


Bollywood celebrity Sohail Khan will attend the inauguration ceremony on 17th May at 11:00 a.m. Sohail Khan is the younger brother of Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan. He is a successful director, writer, producer and actor in Hindi films. He is presently producing and directing the much awaited Salman Khan starrer 'Sher Khan', which is expected to be released this year end.

The Legendary Cricketer of Karnataka G. R. Vishwanath has consented to grace the closing ceremony on 20th May evening. He will be the chief guest and give away the prizes to the winners.

The tournament carries a total prize money of over Rs 6 lakh, including the grand prize of Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Trophy and Cash award of Rs. 3 lakh. The second prize winners will get trophy and Rs. 1.5 lakh in cash. The third and fourth prize will be Rs. 25,000/- and Rs. 10,000/- There will also be cash awards of Rs. 10,000 for Best All Rounder, Best Batsman and Best Bowler. All teams will have to maintain strict dress code of traditional kachche and turban. Special cash prize of Rs. 15,000 will be given to the Best Dressed Team.

“The main objective of organizing the village cricket tournament is to given exposure to the traditional way of playing cricket to the younger generations and promote social discipline and harmony among the villagers. Last year more than 1500 village cricketers took part in the Halli Cricket Tournament. I request the sports enthusiasts of the district to similarly come forward and participate in this tournament too,” says Vijaynath Shetty.

Dubai, May 9: A flight scheduled to bring back Kannadigas, especially Mangalureans stranded in Dubai on May 14 has been rescheduled to May 12.

The flight will take off from Dubai at 4.10 pm UAE time and reach Mangaluru International Airport at 9.10 pm IST on May 12, announced Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda in a tweet.

The flight was earlier scheduled for May 12 and then it was postponed to May 14. Now, it has been rescheduled to May 12.

It is said that constant persuasion from NRIs in UAE led to advance the paid evacuation drive.

In fact, Karnataka was missing in the list of states to receive special flights when Ministry of External Affairs arranged them to bring stranded Indians at UAE. Special flights were arranged only to Kerala and Tamil Nadu people stranded at UAE in the first stage.

Thanks to Karnataka NRI Forum of UAE which opened helpline to seek assistance to Kannadigas, nearly 2000 Kannadigas have registered for assistance in which 127 pregnant women, 27 senior citizens, 700 people who have lost jobs aftermath of coronavirus sought assistance from NRI forum.

In the first flight, priority will be given to people with medical emergency and pregnant women. Once the passengers reach Mangaluru, they will be quarantined in their home districts.

Kodagu, Mar 19: One more person has tested positive for coronavirus in Kodagu on Thursday, taking the tally of confirmed cases in the state to 15.

The man has a travel history to Saudi Arabia.

"One person has tested positive for #COVID19 in Kodagu today; he has travel history to Saudi Arabia. He is being treated in an isolation hospital. Total number of positive cases reaches 15 in the state," said B Sriramulu, Karnataka Health Minister.

A total of 169 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.

Globally, the virus has infected more than 184,000 people and killed more than 7500, as per the data available on the World Health Organisation website.

Mangaluru, Mar 30: Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Natekal, has started online tele-consultation service in the constituent Kanachur Hospital & Research Centre amid fear of corona spread.
 
A statement issued here on Monday said, under this service people can contact the doctors sitting in their home. The doctors will give tele-consultation and medical advice for their health problems through WhatsApp. As per the Kanachur Hospital announcement for this purpose the specialist doctors of nine departments will give their tele-consultation from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs.
 
The people who are not having the social media service (WhatsApp) from rural areas they can directly contact the concerned department specialists over phone by informing the disease details and obtain advises from the doctors through the hospital landline number 0824-2888000.
