Belli Mandala to screen award winning films

Mangalore, May 16: Belli Mandala Film Society will screen selected film at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavana in Pandeshwara on the third Saturday of every month.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Tuesday, newly-elected president of the Society Vijay Kumar Kodialbail said that award winning films would be screened every month. On May 19, national award-wining film 'Gaggara' would be screened.

“'Byari', 'Gulabi Talkies', 'Gubbachchigalu' among others will be screened from thereon. Short films will also be screened as a part of the activity”, he said.

Films will be shown from 5.30 pm onwards and is open to the public, he informed.

Responding to a query on why the Tulu film fails to attract people, he said: “The audience expects comedy films. It is hard to provide movies of only one genre.” He also disclosed that a Tulu drama “Thuluver' will be ready for presentation by the end of November.

Belli Mandala Film Society joint secretary P Nithyananda Rao and others were present.

Bengaluru, Apr 4: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday asked Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar to be the government's spokesperson on the Novel Coronavirus crisis management effort, a move that is being seen as keeping too many cooks from spoiling the broth.

At a high-level meeting to review measures on COVID-19 containment, Mr Yediyurappa is said to have taken exception to his Cabinet colleagues making multiple, and often contradictory statements, leading to confusion.

''The CM has directed Mr Kumar to be the only one to brief the media on COVID-19,'' a source from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) confirmed.

Bengaluru, Mar 21: Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have nabbed a three-member Irani gang, including a woman and recovered from them 1 kg 33 gram stolen gold chains worth about Rs 40 lakh.

City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao told newsmen here on Saturday that the arrested were identified as Abujar, Abdul Hussain and Ms. Jenia, all hailed from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

He said that the culprits, who had been arrested on similar theft cases, were out on bail and continued their criminal activities. They were involved in more than 23 cases.

Bengaluru, May 16: The Karnataka government is expected to take a call on Monday on holding the Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) or class 10 examination, which were postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said there was a possibility that the state government may come out with a timetable on Monday. "We are holding a meeting regarding the SSLC examination," he told reporters here.

He also said there would be discussions on how to conduct the exams and precautionary measures to be taken in view of COVID-19.

"We have to make arrangements for masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners. We will set up a thermal scanner for a health check-up. We have to make separate seating arrangements for those having health issues. All these issues will be discussed on Monday," Kumar said.

The SSLC exams were supposed to commence from May 27 but due to the lockdown, it was postponed for an indefinite period.
