International conference on emerging trends in engineering gets underway

Nitte, May 16: In recent years, optical technology has been incorporated into mechatronics systems in an accelerated rate and as a result a great number of mechatronic products with smart optical; components have been introduced into market such as optical scanner, laser printer, computer CDs etc said Dr. Nilesh J Vasa, Professor and Head, Department of Engineering Design, Indian Institute of Technology, Madrass (IITM), Chennai.


He was speaking after inaugurating two-day international conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering (ICETE-'12) on Tuesday, May 15 in NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte.

Further he said: “We, the Indians are no way behind the advanced countries in research activities and the researcher should keep in mind that any innovation in technology should lead to the development of the society.”

After releasing conference proceedings with ISBN number, the guest of honour, Dr. Apitep Saekow, Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology, Stamford International University, Bangkok said, the this publication be of high quality with very good impact factor and in due course, the institute has to bring out a research journal of international standard. By looking at the quality of education offered by this institute, the Stamford International University of Bangkok is also thinking of academic collaboration with this institute, he added.

In his presidential speech, Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte, said this conference is a platform for research scholars and technical PG students to deliberate. He also advised the delegates to use technology for constructive purposes with social concern, imbibing human kind.

Conference chair, Dr.Niranjan N.Chiplunkar, Vice Principal and Dean (Academics) welcome the guests and delegates. Prof.Prasanna Kumar introduced the chief guest and the guest of honour. Prof.Manjunath Kotari proposed vote of thanks. Ms.Dionne compeered the programme. Dr.S.O.Ojaowo, Professor from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbqomoso, Nigiria was also present on this occasion.

As many as 165 original technical research papers will be presented in the conference out of about 360 papers received from all the over the world. The best selected papers will be published in the second issue of NMAMIT Annual Research Journal (ISSN). Tutorials in many engineering disciplines by the experts from Industry and Academia are also arranged during the conference.

Mangaluru, Jul 3: Four central crime branch (CCB) police personnel tested positive for coronavirus on Friday in Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka.

So far, eighteen police personnel, including an official of the ACP rank and 12 from Ullal police station, have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last few days, police sources said.

A policeman from Mangaluru Rural station and another from Puttur station have also been infected.

All the personnel who tested positive have been admitted to the designated Covid-19 hospitals.

City police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash said adequate protection has been provided to police personnel who were fighting the pandemic and the members of their families.

As of Thursday, the total coronavirus cases in the district stood at 923 and the toll 18 while the state's infection count has crossed the 18,000 mark with 272 deaths.

Mangaluru, Jan 29: Days after some youths allegedly threatened to 'behead' local MLA and former Karnataka minister U T Khader during a pro-CAA rally here, the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Congress on Wednesday urged the police to register a case against the culprits.

A video of the incident that went viral on social media showed the youths raising slogans that they will "cut off his limbs and chop off his head if necessary" during the rally organised by the BJP in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act on Monday.

Addressing reporters here, District Congress Committee president Harish Kumar demanded that the police register a case on their own against the youths. He said if prompt action was not taken against the youths seen in the video, the Congress will launch an agitation before the office of the Commissioner of Police.

When asked by reporters about the video, Khader had on Tuesday brushed aside the threat, saying he had not taken it seriously. The MLA had also said he did not file a complaint with police as he had concern for the families of the youths.

Bengaluru, Apr 20: A ruckus erupted in Padarayanapura on Sunday allegedly over shifting of suspected COVID-19 persons to quarantine facility by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials.

The incident occurred in the late evening at Padarayanapura which is recognized as a 'Red Zone' when BBMP officials went to bring 15 secondary contacts of corona positive patients.

However, some people and youth created ruckus and broke the barricade and removed police post which was stalled in the area.

Soon after receiving the information, Bengaluru South Deputy Commissioner of Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

"Lockdown continues, please remain indoors.Tomorrow will be as it was till today. We Understand your situation and appreciate your cooperation," tweeted Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, Bhaskar Rao.

In Karnataka, 384 people have detected positive for COVID-19, of which 14 people have succumbed to the infection, as per the Union Health Ministry.
