Terrace farming can contribute to better environment: Dr. Vijayprakash

Mangalore, May 16: Terrace farming is a useful way to show concern towards environment and reduce malnutrition among children, said Dr. K N Vijayprakash, CEO, DK Zilla Panchayat.

Speaking after inaugurating a training programme on terrace gardening at Kadri Balabhavana in the city on Wednesday, Mr. Vijayprakash said that such initiatives will encourage children in taking up growing of vegetables and flowers atop rooftops of houses which will come in handy for daily use.

Expressing concerns over the depleting environmental situation in the city, Mr. Vijayaprakash said that there is a need to create awareness among people of the environmental benefits of small level self-gardening and take the campaign to rural areas as well.

Setting up of school gardens in 500 schools is also slated to be taken up by the Zilla Panchayat, he informed.

Vittal Mallya of Bangalore, Rajendra Hegde, Project Officer, Science and Research Foundation, and Anupama Bhat, were the resource persons for the day who gave information on terrace farming.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Karnataka government on Thursday set aside Rs 400 crore to construct twin towers building with 25 floors here at Anand Rao Circle to facilitate all government departments to function at one place.

"To facilitate all the Government Departments to function in one building, a "Twin-Towers" building with 25 storeys will be constructed at Arland Rao Circle, Bengaluru, with an expenditure of Rs 400 crore," said Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa while presenting the budget in the state Assembly.

He further said that the road cross-over facility for pedestrians other than metro commuters will be provided through 24 metro stations.

"The construction of 56 km long Outer Ring Road - Airport Metro from Central Silk Board junction to Bengaluru International Airport via K R Puram and Hebbala at an estimated cost of Rs 14,500 crore will be commenced during the year 2020-21," he said.

Rs 1,000 crore budget each have been announced for the restoration of Bengaluru roads for two years, 276 Karnataka public school for their infrastructure development.

Kalaburagi, Apr 17: Hundreds of people participated in the Siddhalingeswara temple chariot festival in Chitapur village on Thursday, violating the lockdown orders.

"Today at 6.30 am, around 100-150 people had come near Siddalingeshwara temple for about 20 mintues and took part in chariot pulling procession," Superintendent of Police Lada Martin said.

A case has been registered against 20 people and further investigation is going to ascertain more details related to the religious gathering.
Meanwhile, a sub-inspector has been suspended.

Thirty-six cases of coronavirus were reported in Karnataka on Thursday, taking the state's tally to 315.

Mandya, Jan 25: A woman committed suicide by jumping into Vishveshwaraiah Canal after throwing her two children into the canal near Thibbanahalli in the Taluk, police said on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Jyothi (33), Nisarga (7) and Pavan (4), of Hullenahalli.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday.
