KSCA inter-district cricket: Mangalore Rural team beat Udupi

Manipal, May 17: The Mangalore Rural (Kodagu) team defeated the Udupi district team by 42 runs in the second day's match in the limited 40-over Mangalore Zone Inter-District Under-25 cricket tournament organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) here on Wednesday.

The Mangalore Rural (Kodagu) team, which batted first on the Manipal University grounds, scored 244 runs for five wickets.

Nasrulla Bhatkal scored 71 runs, Muthahir 51, Vishnu 31, Sukesh 28, and Shahir 21. The spin attack by captain of the Udupi district team Janardhan claimed two wickets.

Chasing the target, the Udupi district team could make 202 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

The top scorers were Janardhan 47 runs, Naveen 39, Ashreen 27 and Ritesh 15.

Muthahir took four wickets by conceding 25 runs and crafted the victory of the Mangalore Rural team.

The Mangalore City (Dakshina Kannada) team will face the Mangalore Rural (Kodagu) team here on May 17.

Udupi, Jan 7: The Malpe Beach Utsav will be held on February 1 and 2, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district G Jagadeesh said on Tuesday.

According to a release issued here, the festival, which was slated to be held between December 29-31, had been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

The DC said various beach sports and cultural events have been organised to mark the Utsav.

Udupi, Jul 15: Two doctors and four staff members of the Udupi District Hospital have been tested positive for coronavirus.

While one doctor is undergoing treatment at the designated covid hospital, the other one, who is said to be asymptomatic, is being treated at his residence.

After four staff members of the hospital tested covid positive, the throat swabs of their contacts including other staff of the hospital and family members were also sent for testing. 

Meanwhile, a person who was undergoing treatment in the district hospital for some other ailment also tested covid positive triggering panic among other non-covid patients.

Udupi, May 18: G Jagadeesh, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi today warned that criminal cases would be filed, if people under quarantine roam around, as they put the lives of others in risk, by coming out.

He said: "There are more than 6,000 people under quarantine in hotels, hostels, schools etc in different parts of the district. They include those who returned from other countries and other states.”

“We have allowed them to return to the district. Now I am receiving complaints that many of them are violating quarantine guidelines and venturing out. This is unacceptable.”

“As it is a risk to the whole society, severe action will be taken against the neglect and apathy of the persons under quarantine,” he said.
