DK girls top Karnataka SSLC examination

Mangalore, May 17: A Bantwal based girl bagged the top-most place in the Karnataka SSLC Class X examinations, results of which were declared on Thursday, even as girls continued to outshine boys in overall performance.

Navya R Shetty, a student of SVS English Medium School at Vidyagiri in Bantwal, has secured 623 out of 625.

She is the daughter of Rathnakar Shetty, a lecturer at Government College in Bangalore, and Prabha R Shetty, a homemaker.

The second state topper is Pallavi Rao K of Mangalore. She is the daughter of K Manjunath Rao and Bhvaneshwari of Hosabettu. Ms. Pallavi has scored 621 marks (99.36%).

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Ms. Pallavi said that encouragement given by her parents had been the key. “My mother never forced me to study. She kept telling me that if I study normally, I will get good marks. I used to study for 4-6 hours every day. I had expected that I will get above 95% but this was unexpected”, she said.

Ms. Pallavi also said that yoga and meditation had helped her a lot. “I have been practicing yoga regularly. I had won 6th place in an international yoga competition held in Pondicherry. I have also won prizes at Pratibha Karanji competitions”, she said.

A student of Vidyadayani English Medium School, Surathkal, Ms. Pallavi says that she aims to pursue her future studies in science stream. “I wish to pursue engineering studies. I will decide the line of engineering later”, she said.

K Manjunath Rao, father of Ms. Pallavi also expressed his joy on the occasion. “We had expected a good result but never thought she will be the second topper of the state. Her mother has encouraged her a lot and guided her regularly”, he said.

Bengaluru, May 26: The Karnataka government has decided cancel summer vacation for undergraduate and post-graduate students and universities during the 2020-21 academic year in the wake of severe academic loss due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Keeping in mind the loss of academic days due to the lockdown to contain the pandemic, the Higher Education Department has decided to go in for ‘Zero Vacation’. 

The state government decided to cancel all holidays particularly the summer holidays after holding a series of meetings with the Vice Chancellors and other academicians from various parts of the state.

The decision was also communicated during the review meeting of the Higher Education Department held by CM Yediyurappa on Tuesday in Bengaluru.

Udupi, Jan 25: The accused, who planted a crude bomb at the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, was brought to Udupi on Saturday, to collect information, as part of the spot investigation, police said here.

According to police officials, accused Aditya Rao was brought to Karnataka Bank Kadiyali branch, where Rao had a Safe Locker. The team opened the locker and seized the documents, along with a Box.

They said the seized documents, along with the Box, will be sent to the FSL for investigation.

Mangaluru, Jul 7: The residents of Bangle Gudde, Mathadagudde area in Gurupura Gram Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, where two teen aged children were buried alive, were shifted to safer places.

District officials said on Tuesday that the residents have been provided temporary shelter in Gurpur school, PU college, and hostels, while few others were shifted to Ashraya centers. Total 40 houses out of 180 houses in this area located in the red zone were damaged due to heavy rain.

If the residents want to stay in the rented house, the revenue department is ready to pay a sum of Rs 2,500 towards rent, official sources said.
