Yuva Jagruti Samavesha was an attempt to mislead youth'

Mangalore, May 25: The recent Yuva Jagruti Samavesha organized by BJP Yuva Morcha in the city was an attempt to achieve their political ends by misleading the youth to, opined former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty.

Addressing a press meet here, Mr Shetty said questioned the need to organize such a convention in Mangalore, when 123 taluks in the state were reeling under drought-like situation.

He also pointed out that the convention was not attended by majority of the youth from Dakshina Kannada, which clearly shows that the people of the district have lost faith in them.

Though the organisers had stated that one lakh youth will take part in the convention, the actual number of youth who took part was just 30,000. The convention was just an attempt to divide the society.

The BJP is filled with internal conflicts. The BJP manifesto had promised of 35 kg rice for the BPL families at the rate of Rs 2. However, the BPL families are getting only 4 kg rice. The houses for the flood victims are still a mirage.

Coming down heavily on the Global Investors Meet, he termed it as 'Golmal Investors Meet.'

He said the state has failed to chalk out any programmes for the unemployed. The number of unemployed youth are on the rise.

The withdrawal of the notification of the land for the MSEZ phase-II is against the interest of those farmers who were ready to give away their land for the industrial purpose.

He said more than 80 per cent of the farmers were ready to hand over the land. “After notifying the land and without taking up any development work, the government has withdrawn the notification.”

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Kempegowda International Airport and checked all measures taken by authorities and doctors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Till date, 45 people have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus infection across India.

A resident of Bengaluru was tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, the state's health department issued fresh guidelines for the disposal of bodies of COVID patients.

"Although an increased risk of COVID infection from a dead body to health workers or family members who follow standard precautions while handling the body is unlikely, the lack of scientific data requires the utmost care to avoid the inadvertent spread of COVID-19 during these times," the statement from the health department's press release read, emphasising on the dignity of the dead and the religious and cultural tradition.

The 23-page press release elaborated on guidelines regarding testing, handling of dead bodies and other specificities in relation to the management of COVID-19 bodies.

"Testing should not be insisted in every case of death, but only when they have a recorded history of influenza-like symptoms. The body should be handed over to the family members/ relatives in a dignified manner immediately after swab collection and hospitals should provide handouts with a list of dos and don'ts in English and Kannada laying down relevant information," the statement said.

It added, "At the mortuary, health care workers, mortuary staff and the family of the deceased body shall not come in direct contact with the dead body and must wear full personal protective equipment (PPE). If the family or relative are for any reason unable to cremate or bury the body, the local health authority shall arrange for the dignified last rites as per the religious traditions of the family."

Regarding autopsies (post mortem) on COVID-19 bodies, the state department said that they should be avoided, except in necessary circumstances.

The statement also gave detailed guidelines regarding the appropriate recording of COVID-19 deaths in line with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines.

Additionally, the health department made a statement about the admission procedure for COVID positive patients referred by other district administrations saying, "It is now mandatory for all the referrals from the BBMP admission and discharge of COVID positive patients to be done through the online COVID Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS)."

The state's count of coronavirus cases was 1,51,449 in the past 24 hours.

So far, a total of 2,804 people have died due to COVID-19 in the state, while the average recovery rate in Karnataka is 49.3 per cent.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: A flower vendor from Channapatna town in Karnataka got a shock of his life when he found a credit of Rs 30 crore in his wife's bank account. This happened when Syed Malik Burhan was struggling to meet expenses for a medical emergency in the family.

According to reports, bank officials knocked on his doors on December 2 asking him to explain how the money came to his account.

"On December 2, they came searching our house. They only said a huge amount has been deposited in my wife's (Rehana) account and then asked me to come to the Bank along with my wife carrying Aadhaar card," Mr Burhan said.

He claimed that the Bank staff sought to exert pressure on him to sign on a document but he refused. Mr Burhan recalled that he had purchased a saree through an online portal following which he received a call seeking his bank details which, he was told, were needed as he had won a car.

"Since then, we are running from pillars to post to find out how the money came to our account. We had only Rs 60 but suddenly such huge money came, which we are unable to understand," said Mr Burhan.

Mr Burhan said he had lodged a complaint with the Income Tax department, which he claimed was not keen on investigating it initially. Based on his complaint, the Channapatna town police in Ramanagara district registered a case of forgery and impersonation under the IPC besides the Information Technology Act for cheating and impersonation on January nine.

According to police, there were many financial transactions, which Mr Burhan may be unaware of. "We are trying to find out what these transactions mean. We will arrest whoever is behind it. We will not spare them," said a police officer in Channapatna.
