Wheelchairs, scholarships distributed at conference for physically challenged

Mangalore, May 28: Financial aid and basic facilities were distributed among physically challenged at a district level conference of the physically challenged in Mangalore on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Gurudevananda Swamiji of Wadiyur, said that without eliminating corruption, the society cannot progress.

Wheel chairs, walking sticks, scholarships for physically challenged students, writing materials and money worth Rs. 10,000 were distributed among the deserving on the occasion.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, inaugurated the event.

Subbayya Shetty Lingamaaru, Honourary President, DK District Federation of the Physically Challenged, presided over the progremme.

Mangaluru, July 10: Dakshina Kannada, which has emerged as one of the hotspots of covid-19 in Karnataka, has recorded at least six novel coronavirus related deaths in past 24 hours. 

According to sources, four people lost their battle with the novel coronavirus in Wenlock, the designated covid hospital. 

A 35-year-old man from Hosabettu, who was tested positive for COVID-19 recently, died at the Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning.

A 58-year-old woman from Thokkottu, a 67-year-old man from Ullal and a 65-year-old man from Falnir also passed away in the same hospital. 

Two other covid patients passed away in private hospitals. 

With this, the total number of death of covid patients in the district rose to 36.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar warned of strict action against officers who demand bribe from farmers while acquiring land.

Mr Shettar, who paid a surprise visit to defense, aerospace hi-tech industry layout in Haraluru, Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district, warned the officials who demand a bribe for sanctioning compensation funds.

He said, 'Lands have been acquired from farmers for the development of the industrial area. It's the duty of state government to provide compensation to these farmers. Complaints must be registered against officials who demand a bribe for functioning compensation funds.'

Kasaragod, Feb 17: A Kerala Muslim couple conducted the wedding of their Hindu foster daughter at a Bhagavathi temple in Kerala, scripting another tale of communal harmony at Kasaragod.

The wedding ceremony was held on Sunday.

The woman Rajeshwari tied the knot with Vishnu Prasad in the presence of family and friends belonging to both Hindu and Muslim communities.

Abdulla and Khadeeja adopted Rajeshwari after her father who worked at Abdulla's farm died. Rajeshwari's mother also passed away when she was a child.

Rajeshwari grew up alongside Abdulla and Khadeeja's three sons- Shameem, Najeeb and Shereef.

Earlier in January this year, cutting across the lines of religion, a mosque in Kerala's Kayamkulam hosted a Hindu marriage ceremony.
