Puttur Revenue AC, family injured as car overturns

Vittla, June 1: Puttur subdivision revenue assistant commissioner and two others sustained injuries when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident at Urimajal near here on Thursday evening.

All three injured – assistant commissioner Sundar Bhat, his wife wife Rathna and a relative Govinda Bhat-were immediately taken to a private hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred when the trio was on their way to Kedila, the hometown of Mr Bhat from Vittla.

It is said that the Mr Bhat, who himself was driving the car lost control over his vehicle and rammed into a tree. As a result the car overturned on the road.

The impact of the crash was such that the front portion of the car has been completely damaged. Police personnel from Vittla police station visited the spot.

Bengaluru, Jun 27: A Karnataka government employee on SSLC exam duty at a school in Pavagada, Tumakuru district, on Friday tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the education department to send all staff members of the exam centre on quarantine.

“No student has been affected. All the staff has been replaced,” said R Umashankar, principal secretary, education department.

Kasaragod, Jul 14: Kerala State Excise department officials confiscated hawala money to the tune of Rs 2.85 crore from a person hailing from Mangaluru.

According to sources, the officials of the Kumbala Range Excise had noticed the huge baggage containing hundreds of bundles of unaccounted currencies when they intercepted a vehicle at the border check-post at Thoominad in Manjeshwar early on Tuesday morning.

The accused Shamsudheen, who was trying to transport the illegal money into Kerala has been arrested and handed over to the Manjeshwar police authorities for further action, sources added.
