Encourage education among poor: Asare Foundation appeals public

Mangalore, June 1: In order to encourage education among the poor in the society, Asare Women's Foundation, a city based charity organization run by woman, has appealed the general public to take care of the educational needs of the poor children including textbooks and other study materials.

Suhana Yahya, President of the Foundation addressing a press conference here recently, said that it was the collectively responsibility of the public to make arrangements to distribute necessary things for poor students like notebooks, textbooks, schools bags and umbrellas etc.

She also requested to make arrangements to pay school fee, adoption of talented poor students, and avail interest-free education loan in case of necessity.

Distribution of sports materials like shoes, track suit and providing nutritious food, training would help the poor and deserved students to become sportspersons, she said.

She also appealed the affluent class of the society to conduct career guidance, workshop in order to help poor students to choose right career.

“There are many government run free hostels in the area, but our students lack the information. One can help them by informing about these facilities,” she said.

She also requested to conduct regular evening classes for drop-out students and see to it that they are ready to take Class X and II PU exams at the end of the year directly.

Shabeena Akhther, Founder President, Salma Umar, General Secretary, Mumthaz Parveen, Organising Secretary and Athika Rafeeq, Vice President were also present.

Mangaluru, Apr 29: One person was arrested on charges of murdering a middle-aged couple on Wednesday in Yellinje near Kinnigoli.

The area falls under the jurisdiction of Mulky police.

Police said that the deceased were identified as Vincent D’Souza (50) and his wife Helina D’ Souza (45).

The arrested was identified as Alphonso (55). He will be sent to judicial custody, said police.

Mysuru, Mar 6: A BJP worker was stabbed to death by unidentified persons at his apartment in Mysore in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Anand in his early thirties, was reportedly attacked with a broken beer bottle shortly after he returned home following his late night birthday party, police added.

Following information from neighbours in the apartment, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

"The murder took place between 3 am and 4 am. We are investigating who was with him at the time and what was the motive behind the killing," Mysuru police Commissioner Dr Chandragupta told reporters.

Police said further investigations are on to ascertain the motive and people behind the killing.

Bengaluru, Jan 9: Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Thursday said that the Education Department would launch a helpline by March 2020 to address the complaints.

Speaking to reporters here, he said, the helpline is not only for children but also for teachers.

"Entire department including teachers and parents can make use of the opportunity”, the minister said.

“The helpline can be called for any complaint related to the Education Department. Our objective is to resolve problems within a stipulated time,” the Minister said.
