Mangalore, June 3: The giant bison that had intruded into the runway of Mangalore Airport last Thursday morning for the first time, has continued to haunt authorities the bovine once again showed up at the runway Saturday night.

The incident has once again raised the security questions in the highly restricted area.

Sources said that an Airport staff spotted the wild animal at around 9:00 pm near the runway and issued an alert. They confirmed that it was the same animal which caused panic three days ago by leisurely strolling along the runway for minutes.

When the bison sensed human beings around, it tried to go back to the place it came from.

The officials of forest department and Pilikula Niargadhama, who had failed to trap the animal three days ago, have once again rushed to the spot and launched a joint hunt for it on Sunday morning.

On Thursday the efforts to capture the bison had went in vain as it fled the scene injuring Nisargadhama Scientific Officer Vikram Lobo.

Security lapse

Despite the fact that the Airport is under the scanner of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the entry of a bison into the runway twice in three days is being looked at as a security lapse. The question that has been raised now is that how did the security personnel manage to make unseen a bison of over 400 kgs.

The table top runway of Mangalore is surrounded with valleys and forest area and there are possibilities of the bison entering the runway from Adyapady area.
